September Lyrics

How the time passed away? All the trouble that we gave
And all those days we spent out by the lake
Has it all gone to waste? All the promises we made
One by one they vanish just the same

Of all the things I still remember
Summer's never...

I think this songs means the death or loss of someone he loved, Not Daughtry in-general but to any person who has lost someone they loved

'How the time passed away? All the trouble that we gave
And all those days we spent out by the lake
Has it all gone to waste? All the promises we made
One by one they vanish just the same'

How is the time passed away? the trouble that we gave. This pretty much is saying, Since when did time matter to us except for now? And all those days we spent out by the lake, has it all gone to waste? All the promises we made. Just is saying 'Oh so none of this matters anymore, but I still wont forget it. One by one they vanish just the same, He's saying he's gone through this a lot and that since their gone they're still in the back of his mind.

'Of all the things I still remember
    Summer's never looked the same
The years go by and time just seems to fly
    But the memories remain'

He's saying that he still will remember all the happy things they did and that those things were special. Also since that person is gone, he is living life, never forgetting the things they did together.

'In the middle of September we'd still play out in the rain
Nothing to lose but everything to gain
Reflecting now on how things could've been
It was worth it in the end'

He's saying they would still be happy through the sad times and that there was nothing else bad but a lot of things to discover and be happy about. Daughtry also said that one of them messed up somehow along the way, but mistakes made it better until now.

'We knew we had to leave this town
But we never knew when and we never knew how
We would end up here the way we are
Yeah we knew we had to leave this town
But we never knew when and we never knew how'

He's saying that (I'm not sure) the town didn't support either him and the other person or just one of the people, causing one to leave to a different place. Leaving Daughtry alone in the world to just remember them by all the fun they had
