What does Miles mean?

Christina Perri: Miles Meaning

Album cover for Miles album cover

Miles Lyrics

i'm scared today, more than i told you i was yesterday
give me a moment to catch my breath
and hold me every second left

proud of me, that's the only way i want you to be
look at me and love what you see

i won't make it alone, i need...

From my point of perspective, the song divulges the struggle for keeping the fire of a long distance relationship alive. The song narrates the harsh transition the relationship undergoes as product of the distance between two lovers. Although, the star crossed lovers try to keep their flame from obliterating, the distance proves too much for one of them. While the other tries to hold on to what is left of the remnants of their relationship.

I think it means that it doesn't matter how far away he is its that he will love her no matter where they are in the world!

Two lovers miles apart madly deeply in love struggle to make it through . The dostance is just too much for him , theyv made it so far but he feels like giving up in the end . She talks to him and tries to convince him to hold on for this last bit because it'll be good after the distance finally ends ... Dont count the miles count the memories youve already shared , she says she needs him ... Thts my interpretation coz im in this phase right now . Iv been away from her for 2 years now cant even talk to her , 1 month left before we're together again . But i feel like giving up, she's convincing me to stay on coz we cant live without each other the outcome is still uncertain ... I hope he goes back to her ..

I think this song represents a relationship where her lover moved far away after they had fallen in love. The line "hold me every second left" might be where she's saying goodbye to him and knows she won't see him for a long time. They try to make it work, but have problems because of the distance. There seem to be some problems, and he's giving up a little bit. Her temporary solution is to try not to think about the miles; just the "I love you"s. The line "we made it out, and all the other people are asking how" might be him coming to visit her, and her friends are surprised that they are still together even though there's a lot of miles between them. However, since pretending the miles aren't there doesn't usually work, he does give up because she's so far away. She still thinks their relationship is worth holding onto, and obviously she becomes very lonely when he tells her he wants to break up. The last repeating of chorus may be her wishing he was with her.

I suppose you could associate this song with a family member, but it seems a little intimate for family.

    Hope this helps! :)

To me, this song is about the relationship between an absent father and daughter. The father returns after "giving up on us [the daughter and mother]" and she tries desperately to repair the relationship. The chorus is what she wants him to do and say. She wants him to always come home to her, be her support, be proud of her, and love her. In the end, he gives up and distances himself again, hence the title, "Miles." They are miles apart. Even if he's literally present in her life and always has been, he is emotionally detached. This theme could also be applied to an actual relationship, but I like to believe it's a father/daughter thing. Not every song is a love song.

I believe that this song is about a relationship that had a lot of problems. And Christina wanted it to work and they tried really hard but it finally didn't work out.

I think it's her leaving her parents for the first time and she has to have their support.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I think she's talking about a lover whom she felt would do anything for "always come home to you" but they might be in a long distant relationship "don't count the miles count the I love yous' but he gave up on them in the end.
