Killin' Time Lyrics

You Were The First Thing That I Thought Of
When I Thought I Drank You Off My Mind
When I Get Lost In The Liquor
You're The Only One I Find

And If I Did The Things I Oughta
You Still Would Not Be Mine
So I'll Keep A Tight Grip On The...

I relate to this song so well, because I am killing time too, until I pass away. I may not drink every day like Clint Black did in this song, but metaphorically speaking, “I drink from the bottle” everyday and am a raging alcoholic in many other minuscule ways, essentially killing time for eternity.

It's about a man's struggle whose love has passed away. Time is killing him because to him it seems like forever before it's his time to pass. And he knows if he takes his own life, he'll be killing time for eternity.

I think it’s about a man that’s in love with a woman who is also in love with him. But he keeps screwing it up by doing selfish things and she is realizing that he is slowly killing the hope she had for them to someday become husband and wife. If he would only go to her and straighten up he could have his true love because what he does not realize is that she loves him so much she is wanting him to go to her and tell her he will be honest from now on but he is too caught up in drinking. So it’s now clouding his judgment

An up and coming artist, without patience, could fall victim to killing time, drinking too much, in the bars, and miss his shot..

I think he's singing about marijuana in a round about way. He tried marijuana and liked it but can't smoke it because it's illegal or whatever reason. "You were the first thing that I thought of when I thought I drank you off my mind, when I get lost in the liquor, you're the only one I find. He's killin' time because someday he knows it will be legal but he just don't know when so he'll keep a tight grip on the bottle gettin' lose killin' time.

Marijuana was legal in the u.s. up until 1937. He spent all his life just dyin' for a love that passed away. The love is marijuana.

It seems he still smokes it though legal or not. "There's a menu of my sorrows, if this is the only price I'll pay, I'll be a happy man when I go and I can't wait another day.

Just my interpration, listen to it again and see if marijuana doesn't fit in there.

This is a really neat song to listen to, as well as very inspiring. I think it's about a man who can't win the love of his life, so he drinks alcohol in order to forget about her, but still remembers her (hence the lines "So I'll keep a tight grip on the bottle" and "You were the first thing that I thought of when I thought I drank you off my mind").

Kudos to Clint Black for writing such a great and beautiful song. :)
