Hold My Girl Lyrics
To come around and tell me the truth
'Bout everything that you're going through
My girl you've got nothing to lose
Cold nights and the Sunday mornings
On your way and out of the grey
I've got time, I've got...

Someone said it before but I strongly agree with his interpretation it's about nearing death (the water) but wanting time to spend with the family wife etc (him climbing and holding onto the ledge)

I lost my first baby last may and paradise was our bump song it seemed to spell out all of the joy and excitement running through my whole body finally this incredible mother daughter love was on its way and it was just paradise then we lost her (I'm convinced baby was a girl too early to tell) but it was a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks she stopped growing at 9 weeks midwives told me that it was our bodies trying so hard to hold onto each other i wouldn't miscarry naturally I had to have a d&c to remove baby I woke up from that surgery looking for my baby where is she please let me hold her but she was too small and had to go to the lab we got to bury her in the hospitals little angel cemetery. when George Released hold my girl It felt like he did it for us I wish I could thank him for it all his music really helping me through and really helping me remember and celebrate the short time I had with my little girl even though I never got to hold her. Songs mean different things to different people! Thank you George

Hold My Girl by George Ezra, great voice and nice lyrics. Real meaning is seen at songfacts website.
For the latest comment, sorry Mr. to hear about your wife. I admire you and your wife for being married 50+ years, proof that you really loved each other and stayed together through thick and thin. Have a Merry Christmas. Stay strong.

My wife died two years ago and when I heard this song I thought of our last year together when she was sick. She fought and fought until the end, never losing the "confidence" that she would prevail. She beat the cancer but the struggle was too much and she died. I think of this song as just wanting to hold "my girl" close for just one more minute. We were married 50+ years.

It’s about a father and his daughter.

I take a different look at the song. After watching the video with the water rising in the cabin I think the song is referring to the inevitability of death. I think the water represents an encroaching death either his or her’s and he’s asking for just a minute to hold her before either he or her leave this world.

Maybe the woman is married, and that is why it is such a sad song.

My dad is dying today and as I was told the news, this song was playing on the radio. To me it struck me very differently from you all. I'm halfway across the world from my dad and can't make it there, so it's breaking my heart.

He loves the woman he’s talking about but wants the opportunity to make her as happy as she makes him and prove he loves her enough and has the patience to understand her and make her happy and build a life together.
