Black Diamond Lyrics

Out on the street for a living
Picture's only begun
Got you under their thumb
Hit it

Out on the streets for a living
Picture's only begun
Your day is sorrow and madness
Got you under their thumb

Whoo, black diamond
Whoo, black diamond

Darkness...

Paul Stanley told Classic Rock magazine: "'Black Diamond' was a song that I wrote about New York. New York was very dear to us, and life there was all we could write about. Seeing hookers on the street, whether we lived it, we saw it and it kind of gave us something to fantasize about."

I don't think it makes sense to say Black Diamond is an older, wiser prostitute... what does the line 'Picture's only begun' mean then? The obvious meaning is just a song about a black hooker who is suffering, exploited, but, as a diamond, hard and precious. The song is an anthem to honor her.

It's sooo obvious what a Black Diamond is, I'm surprised the guy above missed it by so much.

OK, imagine what a girl looks like naked. Look to her pubic area. What shape is it? With the dark hair most women have, it's diamond-shaped.

    So now you know.

After being a Kiss fan since 1974 & seeing them live 4or 5 times I think" Black Diamond" is definatly about prostitution & homelessness, & the sorrow & misery involed. I think also the term refers to an older wiser Afro American prostitite used as a " sage" for younger more niave pros'. It is interesting that Paul wrote the song, but gave it to Peter to sing. Also i hear that Black Diamond is something that Gene thought of after looking at his make- up, but Paul beat him to writting about it that nite & completed the whole song. It is the last song on their 1st album & used to end concerts.

While the prostitute angle is correct I believe, it was also the name of an unwritten song idea Gene had after looking at his make-up. Named Black Diamond. Paul beat him to the punch and came back the next day with a completed song.

This song was written by Paul Stanley and reflected his thoughts about the prostitutes he saw in New York while he was growing up. It was strongly influenced by the recent Rolling Stones song, Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (the resemblance can be heard in the Kiss song's "Doo Woops." The "Black Diamond" is a older and wiser African American prostitute that and younger hooker goes to for advice, etc. For as long as anyone can remember, this has been the traditional Kiss song played just before encores.

The song is about prostitution and homelessness, how it is hard to quit after getting involved.
