Cemetery Drive Lyrics

This night
Walk the dead
In a solitary style and crash the cemetery gates
In the dress your husband hates

Way down
Mark the grave
Where the searchlights find us drinking by the mausoleum door
And they found you on the bathroom...

ok so this is a really deep song, and to be honest as with most MCR songs there probably isn't one maening to this song. I doubt the band even have a definete story to it... but obviously it is clearly about suicide, depression and someone having an affair...

so here my version, simular to the others I'm sure, and not neccesarily right (in fact probably wrong)

ok so the first verse in my opinion is pretty simple, this woman is having an affair 'in the dress your husband hates' and they get caught 'where the search lights find us drinking by the moseleum door'

'and they found you on the bathroom floor' this is where I think the story could be a number of things. So the obvious thing is she commits suicide, she shoots herself, another thing that points to this is the fact that in teh secret backing track thing somebody keeps saying 'don't do it. don't do it... are you there at all ?? do you care at all ??' so that obviously backs up the thought of her killing herself. But I also though tta maybe the husband killed her and then got really angry 'is this what you always want me for' kidna like she wanted to kill herself but didn't have the guts so provoced him unti he did it for her... If that makes sense ??

and that's about it really lol

but as I said I don't think there's one definete interpretation for this song

This is my interpretation and it’s probably wrong but this is what I understood.

I think it’s about an affair however I have always thought that they get caught (" Where the searchlights find us Drinking by the mausoleum door") and the jealous husband shoots the wife (“It isn't that much fun Staring down a loaded gun”). Then the lover is really sad that she died (“So I won't stop dying”). Perhaps he believes that when he says it not his fault that she died he is lying (“Won't stop lying”). “Did you get what you deserve?” maybe she had discussed with her lover the guilt she felt over cheating on her husband, and then “Is this what you always want me for?” I think that maybe he feels slightly angry with her as well, like she knew he’d get hurt. “I miss you, I miss you so far, And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard” I think he is saying that the fact that he loved her so much made it hard to lose her (not necessarily that he helped kill her). “Way down, Way down” the lover falling into depression after the loss of his beloved.

But hey, what do I know :P

I think the song is about a woman having an affair "crash the cemetery gates in the dress your husband hates" she commits suicide from depression and guilt. In one line "is this what you want me for" he is saying he beleives she was having the affair as an excuse to commit suicide although he still loves her.

He hates the dress because it is skimpy and shows too much cleavage.

Okies the really long interpretation about four posts above this is more or less how I see. Only the line 'it's not that much fun staring down a loaded gun' is still about her suicide. She most likely shot herself in her bathroom (it seems to be commom place for using a gun to kill your self with)and because of the single word 'staring' which suggests that person would be looking barrel of the gun for a while-most likely how you would before you commit suicide as you would be contimplating it and bracing yourself. I think this because its the husband is sympathising with the women as he knows what its like to be shot.

If you're right about how they got the idea then read the book and find out it is

This song is about a woman that cheats on her husband,"And crash the cemetery gates In the dress your husband hates", and he kills her and he misses everything about her and how it was hard to kill her, "And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard"

And he talks about how he misses her, "I miss you, I miss you so far"

Well all I know is that this is the best song and especially if you see it LIVE!!! I luckily enough did!! Anyway I think the person above me that has a really long explanation thought it out a lot and could be very close to what Gerard Way was feeling when he wrote that song... So I say well done!! -xx-

This song was Mikey's idea and is from a book with short stories! (the same book where they got the name of the band from)

He is sent to hell and comes back to earth to retrieve the souls of 1,000 evil men.
When he finds her, she is in the cemetery mourning him. "This night, walk the dead, in a solitary style" - she is there alone.
"and crash the cemetery gates in the dress your husband hates" - He is speaking in the third person - he hates the dress.
"where the search lights find us drinking by the mausoleum door" - She is at his resting place, the search lights a metaphor for him coming upon her.
"and they found you on the bathroom floor" - She is so riddled with the loss that she takes her own life.
"back home, off the run singing songs that make you slit your wrists" - this part tells the story leading up to her taking her own life.
"it isn't that much fun, staring down a loaded gun
so I won't stop dying, won't stop lying" - The loaded gun line is him telling her how he died in the shootout. The mention of repetitive dying is him returning to hell with the souls. The "won't stop lying" line is his way of lying to himself, reptitively telling himself that he is doing this for her.
"if you want I'll keep on crying
did you get what you deserve?
is this what you always want me for?" - He cries because he misses her. He wonders if his return caused her death. Asks the devil, is this why you want me?
"I miss you, I miss you so far
and the collision of your kiss that made it so hard
    way down, way down
    way down, way down
    way down, way down
    way down, way down "
Read "I miss you". "So far." He misses her and he is "so far" from her.

The collision of your kiss line is his meeting with her.

I think this song (like evryone else thought) is about a wife that cheats on her husbund. But I think it means something totally different as well. (I'm not saying mine interpretation is correct, but this interpretation is just my opinion and what I think) okay so here it is:

    "and crash the cemetery gates.
in the dress your husband hates"

This shows she was obviously seeking revenge on her husband, even if it meant just something simple, like wearing the dress he hates that she owns.

"Where the search lights find us
    drinking by the mausoleum door"

And this obviously means that she was with another man (not her husband) and thus she was cheating.

"And they found you on the bathroom floor"
"It isn't that much fun, staring down a loaded gun"

And these show that she obviously died, somehow but in the chorus:

"I miss you, I miss you so far
and the collision of your kiss that made it so hard"

It suggests that maybe the man she was cheating with helped her by assisted suicide. because he says that it was very hard for him to do it, and that she was depressed, based on this line in the song "singing songs that make you slit your wrists"

and then when it is said in the song :

"so I won't stop dying, won't stop lying
if you want I'll keep on crying
did you get what you deserve?
is this what you always want me for?"

Obviously her husband feels guilty for all the things he did to her, and he still loves her, but maybe she got what she deserved because she cheated on him and all.

So yeah I think this song is more than just about cheating, but also about assisted suicide, and yeah that's just my opinion so I hope that this helped anyone if they were wondering what this great song is about.

I think is about a girl who cheats on her husbend btu then deciedes to end their affair. This breaks his heart, so he sings snogs about it that makes her slit her wrists. But he is still depressed so he thinks about suicide.

I read somewhere that the whole album was about a husband and wife that got killed in a shootout but the wife didn't really die. The devil sends the man back to Earth with a gun and tells him to bring him the souls of 1000 evil men.

The way I see this song (after reading everyone elses interpretations) is that the woman gets re-married after the husband's death, but he sees it as her cheating on him (maybe she arranged the shoot out as an elaborate plan to kill her lover so she could get re-married) and she kills herself maybe because she's confused that her husbands alive (or because she thinks the plan didn't work)and he can't believe that he's been given another chance at life and the person he loved has cheated on him and killed herself ('I miss you') but she deserved it for killing him.

OK, so first of all I have to say that most of MCR songs are pretty deep and not exactly written in a way that you can actually understand what they mean right away, but sometimes what they sing and the way they sing it can give extra tips on what the song might be about. So I'm now gonna give you MY interpretation, which doesn't mean its actually right, in fact you might think its stupid but anyway (I'm 15 by the way, so maybe I think I understood stuff when I really didn't at all)

Right, so I've read a couple of interpretations of this song and most of them talk about it being about the girl cheating on the guy. Now, what is sure is that the girl did kill her self ("they found you on the bathroom floor") but I'm not exactly sure if it is because she was cheating. Umm..so when they say "And crash the cemetery gates/

In the dress your husband hates" I think maybe she killed herself in that dress and like wanted to be buried in it so as like a final insult to her husband, who I think is the guy who tells the story, so what I think is that it's actually him who cheated on her, but not cus he didn't love her, because he keeps saying "I miss you" all through the song, but maybe because he was so screwed up and didn't know wat to do with his life or something and that finally led him to cheating on her, and she found out and she loved him so much and therefore killed herself cus she couldnt take it and the guy then realises what happened and all..umm but then the second verse actually made me doubt because it says stuff like "did you get what you deserve?" Maybe through all the pain because she killed herself and all, he starts thinking like well yea you killed yourself but look at all the shit you've always put me through, maybe its better off this way..and when he says "So I won't stop dying, won't stop lying" maybe he means like I won't stop dying inside as in suffering all the time, and I won't stop lying like to myself, telling me that it's not my fault although I know it was, but then since he says maybe its what she deserves maybe then he realises that it really isn't his fault after all and that he loves her and miss her but she was indeed 'using' him for sumthing, I'm thinking like money or you know just the adrenaline rush that pushes some women into cheating on their husbands.. SO that's kind of the way I see it, it might be completely wrong but well I just thought I might gve it a try at seeing what the My Chemical Romance dudes were thinking about when they wrote it and like what they wanted to say or show by singing this song and all..

Anyways, I found out doing this that I really pretty much like interpretating songs so I may do this some other time again. I hope it helped those who wanted to try and know what it meant, too.
