    I think he's talking about the old part of him, the part where he had joy , where he was happy but didn't act like it like he mentions in his new songs, he could also be talking to his Mum about how she changed and what changed her soul...

    I thought maybe he is talking about Joy, as in his happiness. His pain has taken on a altar of some sort of. obviously there is Nate and then there is a side of him that is angry and hurt. He talks to them all the time in the songs.
