   I think "This Is The Future" is one of Adam's more spiritual songs. He is telling people not to give up hope, even when life is at its worst. He's saying to have a positive self image and not give up on your dreams, because they will survive. Also, just the fact that you are alive is itself a tremendous blessing. But beyond all this, Adam is a Christian, and he is a master at subtly working the message of Christianity into his songs. I hear him saying that God has not abandoned you, and in Jesus Christ, the future is bright because Jesus will eventually come back and take you home to heaven.

   When I heard this song for the first time, it made me think of someone who was dead or comatose, but could still communicate with someone. This someone wants desperately for the person to "wake up on your own. And look around you, 'cause you're not alone". They use such words perhaps because the one lying comatose does not really want to wake up, due to difficulties in his or hers past.

   i'm not exactly sure what this song means, but i'm gonna give you guys my best interpretation of it.
   it sounds like he is telling someone that they shouldn't feel alone when they wake up or when they're just alone period. because someone with them spirtitually or in their heart.
   it also sounds like he might be saying that her hope cannot die because it's the future, and she is alive. and that she shouldn't give up her hope.
   at the part "dive in and swim away, from your lonliness and miserible days" is saying that she is lonley and upset. she probly just expierenced the death of a loved one, a harsh break up, or something along those lines that made her feel this way. and he is telling her to just get away from her lonliness and miserible days, because she isn't alone. someone, maybe even that person who made her feel alone, is with her somehow. and Adam is telling her not to give up hope, because that person isn't completly gone. and he is telling her to keep an open mind that the person could be watching over her from heaven.
   i'm sorry but i didn't get the "you're headed home" part at the end...lol. i hope you guys understood this. i might not even be right x'D
