I believe it is a song about life, love & relationship to God, with the first verses being about his relationship to God, and second group of verses being about human relationship

"Dead to rights, born & raised" - born into sin
"You know how to give & how to take" - from the book of Job
"So hold me close and I'll surrender to your heart" - talking to God
"You see every hope I locked away" - only God can see that
"Turn my soul into a raging fire" - Asking God to help him be passionate
