Pieces Lyrics

I'm here again
A thousand miles away from you
A broken mess, just scattered pieces of who I am
I tried so hard
Thought I could do this on my own
I've lost so much along the way

Then I see your face
I know I'm finally yours
I find everything...

One has to take in the words and the music to appreciate the beauty of this song.

At the beginning, it starts off somber...a shameful reflective state...like one would get when they have to shamefully admit a fault to their parents...but also with resistance filled with pride.

As the song progresses, the lyrics/confession become more free flowing and the music progresses as well. Simultaneously, the inner turmoil begins to peak and the self acceptance of God's undying love begins to overtake the pride.

The peak occurs when the instrumental/band begins and the cries of "I've tried so hard"...the strength of his selfish pride begins to die so that he can become "whole" again by and with God's love and grace.

And the song ends in a soft and peaceful place, with him being complete and whole again with God's love and grace.

I agree that it is about Jesus; however it is up to the listener to interpret it how ever he or she will.

It's about Jesus, not a girl. Red, standing for the blood of Christ, shows how we need his love, grace and forgiveness.

Have you ever heard a song that stops you in your tracks ? That was this song . The first time I heard it I started crying and felt this overwhelming feeling I can't explain . The way I interpreted the song was he was talking he about he was in prices and God made him whole . I just LOVE this song it is so beautiful . I want this song played at my funeral .

I think it's talking about God and the part where he says, "when i see your face" is talking about when he goes to heaven. We are all broken and only God can fix us.

Someone in the comments here said this:

"From the sheer fact that he says "When I see your face, I know I'm finally yours" is completely romantic, so it pertains to a woman, and due to the Judeo-Christian god's nature of not being able to be physically perceived in any way, shape, or form, you can't see god's face, so, I highly doubt, based on the conjecture of that line in the song, that it's a religious song."

I disagree. First of all most traditional Christians believe that Jesus Christ is God. One third of the trinity. It is common belief that when a Christian dies they will see Jesus for sure and since he is God, well the commenter's theory could very well be inaccurate. However I tend to agree with him but not based on his argument. But also in the beginning of the song, Red sings, "A thousand miles away from you." If he were singing about God shouldn't he have said "a million miles away?" I mean why a thousand?

That's a little less than the distance from L.A to Austin, Texas. I'm just sayin'.

The song is about a person who he loves that can make him whole again when he has fallen apart. That doesn't necessarily need to be about a deity at all.

I'm an athiest but I've not long discovered them and love their music! Seeing as I don't believe in God and all that jazz, I relate it to love and imagine it's my boyfriend who is the one who's healing me, which he has and is still doing. He's made me feel like me again.

Besides being religious, I interpret it about love. He's come a long way to find his lover and when she sees his face (or when he sees her face) shes accepted him as his. Sort of like the jesus thing, being accepted and loved :P

I think this song can be interpreted in two ways
    1. Relationship wise "when I see your face I know I'm finally yours, I find everything I thought I lost before" meaning now that he has this girl in his life he's beginning to have hope again and can finally live happy. Then "u call my name I come to you in pieces so you can make me whole" would mean the girl is able to make him happy when he's depressed.
    2. This song can also be religious " I tried so hard thought I could do this on my own" "I've lost so much along the way" meaning he thought he could live his life without Jesus and ended up losing so much from it
This song is incredibly beautiful in both beat and lyrics
