Pray Lyrics

I'm young and I'm foolish, I've made bad decisions
I block out the news, turn my back on religion
Don't have no degree, I'm somewhat naïve
I've made it this far on my own

But lately, that shit ain't been gettin' me higher
I lift up my head...

In an interview, Sam Smith explains that he spent 5 days in Mosul with the charity War Child. He admits he spent his time at Catholic church at the age 15 but turned his back. His visit in Mosul made him see just how much has happened since but he has never forgotten the lessons he learned from his studies at age 15. He also talks about how this song 'Pray' is meant to be him talking about the things he has seen in others lives and his own and how sometimes we all need some faith to keep going. Of you search for his article interview, you'll see how Sam goes in depth about his recording of this song which was different than his usual love songs.

Pray means so much to me. Sometimes even if you don't believe in God, you just have to have a little faith... and hope. Just kind of pray that things will get better.
