I think it means that you don't have to be anyone out of the ordinary to win someone´s heart, to win their love. You just have to be there for them to love - and to kiss!

Chainsmokers explained: "This is about a relationship that doesn't need to be superhumanly perfect, an ordinary love, a love everyone deserves like the boy on the cover art whose childhood memories are now boxed up." at songfacts
For the one who commented this morning who is having an emotional relationship with a married man, please leave this married man alone with his wife. Find a single man who will love you and accept you as you are and vice versa. Don't waste your mind and heart with someone who is already married. Please be realistic. If he stopped talking to you, he realized that what he is doing is wrong and he fully loved his wife this time.
- Hope you have a Merry Christmas anyway -

I have an emotional relationship with a married man who plans to leave his wife when retires he sings the song to me. I get furious every time he goes out with her; don’t even talk at all to him. This time is real. Not talking at all. I know he has stopped doing that but lately he did it. That was the end.

Well, if you listen closely... You can tell, what everyone else is saying is correct... Only about CERTAIN points in the song. The song goes deeper than just being about a boy and his mom, or a man and his girlfriend. Rather it's a combination of these during different stages of his life.
In the first chorus (books of old, like spider man and Batman) he's a kid with a parent, and doesn't think he's good enough. The first lyric is "BUT she said..." the BUT is in there, cuz at one point his parents told him he could be anything he wants, but now he doesn't feel good enough... Therefore, the "I want something just like this" from his parent.
In the second chorus (books of old, the testaments and about the moon and it's eclipse) he's older, He's with a girlfriend... And she's asking how far you wanna go, what you want to risk. He doesn't think he's good enough for her and he wants to be, but she's happy with things the way they are... Even tho he's determined to do anything it takes to be more.
In the third chorus, there is no "reading books of old". He's literally come to a realization that maybe he is good enough the way he is, and he's talking to himself. (Backed up by the burning of the spaceship that you see in the music video during these lyrics. He's letting go of the thoughts of not being good enough, and realizing everything is good the way it is). All these thoughts, and the entire story that he's told in this song, were part of a dream.
Hope this clears everything up! -

I think this song about a man/boy too obsessed with his superhero..influence to become a superhero/superhuman for his girl! Very unrealistic life,he might think he's not good enough to be a real man for his girl,so that he's been reading the old books of superhero. Then he decide to leave his girlfriend,"she said, where'd you wanna go??"how much you wanna risk??"im not looking for somebody with some superhuman gifts.
Just my opinion about this song,TQ

A man/boy is talking to his girlfriend expressing his doubts that he is good enough for her. Maybe he is thinking of leaving her so he can do something to make himself worthy of her. She asks him, where is he going to go, what is he going to do? She might not even still be here when he gets back (what you gonna risk). She tells him she has no need for a super hero who is going to promise her an (unrealistic) happily ever after (fairy tale). She just wants someone who she loves who will be there for her. She wants what she already has with him (something just like this). I think the doo-doo-doo's is where she kisses him.

This song means real love. We can choose to be superhuman or not. That women already superhuman. She can make everything seem possible if she wants. That man still doubts & lacks motivation in life. We need to reads many fairy tale story and question everything to understand this song.

've been reading books of old,
The legends and the myths,
Achilles and his gold,
Hercules and his gifts,
Spiderman's control,
And Batman with his fists,
And clearly I don't see myself upon that list.
Jangan berpikir lagu 'Something Just Like This' adalah lagu anak-anak.
She said, "Where'd you wanna go?
How much you wanna risk?
I'm not looking for somebody,
With some superhuman gifts,
Some superhero,
Some fairytale bliss,
Just something I can turn to,
Somebody I can kiss." -

This is a letter from a parent to their young child. Telling them that they don't need to be a super hero. They don't need to be perfect. They just need to be themselves.
