The Smiths - Panic Meaning
-
This was written after Chernobyl nuclear disaster when Radio 1 DJ (Steve Wright?) played ‘I’m Your Man’ by Wham immediately after the news report of the incident
-
I believe it might touch on the the ignorance of the people during the era this song was written in. "Because the music that constantly plays...says nothing to me about my life" could possibly mean he feels as if the people were oblivious to the events happening around them because they were so caught up listening to music with unrelated lyrics, so he wishes to "hang the blessed DJ" in order for it to catalyze a wake up call.
