The girl is not in love with him anymore while he still is. so he feels like he is tired of this relationship since it is completely non-sense. He decides to leave her, since she doesn't have feelings for him, although it hurts him a lot. Propably the girl hadn't left him beacuse she felt sorry for him which is the last thing he would ever expect from her. The title says that if she is tails he will be sonic because he is faster using this as a metaphot about moving forward to their lives. In other words he is saying that since she does not love him he will be the first to end their relationship even though he will live in regret fot the rest of his life...

the song is talking about how he lost the girl he loves and now his life is horrible.
he says "I'll live with regret for my whole life" because he knows he messed up and now he will never be the same -
I like thinking of it as him feeling he has two people inside.... I.e. a recovering alcoholic. Hence the two voices. He knows he can never let the have or take control again. Just my thought.

Sonic has always been faster than tails, so it's most likely a metaphor that the guy is quicker than the girl at realizing that something is wrong in the relationship and that its time to get over her.

This song doesn't relate to the title and has nothing to do with it but it still could refer to the song. Its mostly about how this guy messing up his relationship with his girlfriend and he regrets it.

Not sure if this is the correct interpretation but this is what the song says to me (sorry its a bit long!)

This refers to how the guy doesn't know who they are any more and are getting them self all worried and frustrated over what they're trying to be. They've realised they have changed.

This is where the real meat of the song meanings comes in. We get a reference of a girl. He loved/loves this girl and wants to or tried to get to know her. She found out about his feelings and perhaps didn't return them which tore a hole in his heart.

He still likes the girl and will never be able to forget her but feels she should give him more of a chance to prove himself.

This girl has changed him forever filling him with regret. The thought of her won't let him go and he keeps thinking about all the ways he failed. He can only blame himself although he always tries to blame others as well but in the end its just his fault

Again he admits its his fault and thinks that maybe he is meant to be alone. He remembers times they may have spent together. He thinks of her so much and still believes he stands a chance and hopes she will realise what he is actually all about, although it may all be over for him.

He perhaps never stood a chance in the first place as this girl was either to popular for him or he failed to take action quickly and efficiently. He didn't stop trying until it was too late however, which caused maximum heartbreak.

This could perhaps be how the girl forced herself away from him so she became different to him or that they wouldn't have worked together anyway. He can't understand why or how this would happen.

He tried to pretend he didn't care. He trusted others to help him or support him. He knows that he can't do anything. However, maybe if he waits she'll come round eventually although this is very unlikely.

The title "You be Tails, I'll be Sonic" could refer to him being to fast for her(as Sonic is faster than Tails). It could also refer to her being out of reach (as Tails can fly) and that he could've ran round her all he wanted but she never would've come to him.
Well that's my opinion, kinda relates to a situation I'm in. ^^ -
In the Sonic games, Tails would often fall behind. Nonetheless, Sonic kept on running, no matter what. This song is about a breakup. He will just move on with his life.

I thought it was because he was comparing the relationship in the song as what it would be like if tails and sonic broke up, also cause hundreds of emo folk love sonic, but it could be a personal reference, if not then the title could be irrelevant to the lyrics

The way I read the song is interpreted, is that the guy made a mistake of leaving his girl and now he regrets it because he realizes that she completes him but now it's all too late, he knows he won't get her back. but if there is a reference of sonic and tails in this song, it's basically the person he left is tails, and he's sonic but for their reason it's because of their attachment as partners that is like Sonic and Tails. either than that I don't think this song has to do with how they are like sonic and tails.

i think the correlation between the title and the song is that theyre always competing, its obviously how he lost a girl(or maybe vice versa) but how he dont think they could be together and they both know this, yet theyre still a wreck and hate it.
