Faking love with her because he is committed so he cant show his love for her, and he fall in love with dakota because of the way she treated him which maybe he did not get from his wife.

In my opinion this song can have two meanings. Well the first one that everyone assumes is it's a about a guy falling in love with a girl named Dakota and the lyrics is his feelings, but what most people don't pay attention to is the lyrics "I know that she barely knows me and I'm fake in love with her" Those let alone kind of screw up the whole meaning of it being a happy love song, but I guess it could still be in others eyes. The second one is maybe the guy and Dakota are friends and she kind of is friend zoning him and though she is he still has a huge crush on her and the lyrics "fake in love with her" would fit because even though he is in love with her he can't show those feelings of love to her without being friend zoned so he's pretty much saying his love might as well be fake.
