   My mirror disappoints me. That's the whole thing. The song is about him finding himself, being happy with himself. There is no reference to another person in the song. It's all a conversation with himself in the mirror. But that doesn't sell. So it's packaged as a love song.

   This is about the one that got away. If you look at the album cover dedication from his former band Under the Influence of Giants, he has a really sweet dedication to his former girlfrieND. He wrote this right after they broke up.

   hes singing about him waking up after a break up and not happy with it. 'my mirror disappoints me' meaning he doesn't see his valued other there with him and wonders if they feel the same.
   all he wants is for them to be happy.
   'i think i'm getting closer, but the scenery the same' possibly means we he was trying to please them nothing was getting better.
   he wonders if its his fault and blames himself.
   this is basically '500 days of summer' in a song, a great one!
