Bob Dylan: Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again Meaning
Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again Lyrics
Up and down the block
I'd ask him what the matter was
But I know that he don't talk
And the ladies treat me kindly
And furnish me with tape
But deep inside my heart
I know I can't escape
Oh, Mama, can this really be...

this is just another compiling of funny thoughts and a few obscure ones thrown in to try and confuse us! eg;
Granpa died last week/ now he's buried in the rocks
Everyone still talks about/ how badly they were shocked
But me i expected it to happen/ when i seen him lose control
He uh lite a fire on Main Street/ and shot it full of holes.
it's a song along the lines of Black Diamond Bay funny lines that tell a story only dylan knows but keeps us guessing. who is this person? who is Granpa? what does the Greek want to hang himself for? sometimes dylan throws a line into a non serious song just because it rhymes. that's why he's dylan -
He is not all there.

its referring to his struggles changing from folk to rock n roll music, he is stuck inside of Mobile (a town known for folk music) with the Memphis (rock n roll) blues again. Something to take into consideration though is that he switches words around a lot in the song like punch my cigarette and smoke my eyelid, so maybe he is stuck inside of Memphis now with the Mobile blues
