My City Of Ruins Lyrics

There's a blood red circle
on the cold dark ground
and the rain is falling down
The church doors blown open
I can hear the organ's song
But the congregation's gone

My city of ruins
My city of ruins

Now the sweet veils of mercy

Most people think this song has something to do with the 9/11 attacks but it was written well before the towers fell. Bruce wrote it about Asbury Park where he spent so much of his youth as he formed and re-formed bands. A city that was once a vibrant beach town but slowly fell into ruin.

He writes protest songs. I think it's about a bomb blowing up a church and this guy is crying because it was everything he lived for.
