Songs about Getting Old

Old age is a hassle, but it beats the alternative. These songs are all about the progression of years in a ripe old life, be it sweetly or otherwise. Whether you plan to mellow like a fine sherry or wise up to a venerated sage, you'll find something to identify with in these songs, provided you get there.

By the way, "old age" itself is a younger concept than we think it is. Because of advances in medical science, people are living longer - you're heard it over and over. But you may not know that as recently as 500 years ago, average life expectancy topped 40 years for the first time. The number of centenarians (a person aged 100 years or more) worldwide in 1950 was only 23,000. By 2000, that figure was just under 210,000 and by 2010, it was at 455,000, a doubling in just a decade. So more of you are taking care of yourselves out there, which is good to hear. Now relax in your rocking chair and reflect on these touching memoirs to your longevity.
