AJ is reflecting back on his relationship with his wife. They were each other's first, got married, & began their lives. There's a goodbportion of the song dedicaded to a lot of emotional pain & their lives were turned upside down as a result: "there was joy, there was hurt"...."life was changed, disassembled, rearranged. We came together, fell apart and broke each other's heart" but were able to work through it according to these 3 biggies he says: "brought back the love, we found trust, vowed we'd never give it up." He finishes by talking about their kids growing up but when they move, they'll be grateful. A lot of pain and a lot of love in this song & basically he's basically saying they talk about all this later in life, "Do you remember when we did..." Beautiful song.

I think it was about an old friend he fell in love with. His first love. Then she left. or he left to pursue his music career and hes reminding her. Hes reminding himself of how far hes come. Ie "and we'll remember when"
