I was down at the New Amsterdam
Staring at this yellow-haired girl

This song is really a throwback to a time when Adam was in his 20's enjoying life, and a commentary about how easy life was. Then as we get older, things like finances, and love come into play, when its easier just to sit back and drink and enjoy the pleasures of life.
It's like Peter Pan, why grow up?
