Blue On Black Lyrics

Night falls and I'm alone
Skin, yeah, chilled me to the bone
You turned and you ran, oh yeah
Oh oh, slipped right from my hand
Yeah
Blue on black
Tears on a river
Push on a shove
It don't mean much
Joker on jack
Match on a fire
Cold on...

Blue on Black is a metaphor. Anytime you mix blue and black, black consumes the blue. Resulting in a bad relationship.

Child abuse- "blue on black"stands for bruises."Slipped from the tip if my tongue" stands for verbal &/emotional abuse. As a victim of child abuse,I relate to the song...."can't be undone"...means you can't take back an unkind word nor a beating....growing up with abuse screws the child up FOREVER.

People aren't going to like this one. And it's not my opinion, just a possible interpretation. Taking from other interpretations, if "blue on black" does have to do with violence between cops and minorities, I think they are saying that type of violence is but a drop in a bucket compared to, say, black on black violence, or crime of another nature. Saying that something is like blue on black, they are saying it's a small percentage of a total larger scale of issues.

I hope it exactly how I interpreted it. Good job 5FDP for making an attempt to use you platform. I just listened cause Brantley Gilbert was in it but I'm now a new fan ..

I simply see it about a realationship gone bad.
And trying to fix it is “ too little too late” like:
    - blue in black
    - a tear on a river
    - cold on ice
    - push on a shove
    - etc
    Essentially, an “effort in vain“

The police aspect on Blue on Black is the thin blue line flag.

Stevie Ray Vaughn wore a blue coat over his black clothes. The rest of the lyrics are poker terms that Kenny Wayne Shepard wrote into the song.

Whatever "blue on black" is, it's being portrayed as insignificant or an effort in vein. Just like a tear in a river, or putting cold on ice, it's an empty gesture that is essentially meaningless. They've lost someone and whatever the "blue on black" gesture is, it won't bring that person (or people) back.

It's the aftermath of a bad relationship. Everything mentioned relates to the excesses that ended the relationship and left the writer there alone.

I took it as the police (blue) and minority's (black), don't get me wrong, I support the police, majority of, who protect us. The smaller percentage that abuse their power and descriminately come down on minorities out of fear or out of hate, I don't. Has anyone else thought of this as a possible interpretation?

FFDP didn't write this song. Kenny Wayne Shepard and Tia whoever composed this song in like 1998.

To me it's about a bad fight between 2 ppl that love one another but can't take it anymore. Words can't be undone and you turned and you ran..this to means it's time to ho or one of the 2 will ha e to dye to get away from the other.

Someone close to him died and no matter how much he kicks, screams and cries, it won't bring him back. much like how when a cop kills a person of ethnic origin, no matter how much people kick, scream, and cry, it won't bring them back

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
