Rapture Lyrics

Hey,

In the life of the wrong, love lingered on, love lingered on to frustration
And if our love is so wrong, what should we do alone?
Or am I just a picture in a photograph?
Why are we stuck in this pantomime, fearing a god who died
One...

this is just a question....some ppl said that their love was wrong because of different religions but if he belives in the rapture he must be christian and if she believes in jesus she must also be christain....i also believed their love was wrong because of religion but then I thought about that and idk

The first time I really listened to the song I thought he was talking about Andrea Yates, who of course is the woman who was famous for drowning her kids in the bathtub. Yates was known for being extremely religious right around the time she drowned her children, which may explain the lyric "she swore she heard the voice of Jesus, telling her it was wrong to keep it."

The following is a portion of an article I found on about.com

    -----------------------------------------------------------
Michael Woroniecki was a traveling minister from whom Rusty purchased their bus and whose religious views had influenced both Rusty and Andrea. Rusty only agreed with some of Woroniecki's ideas but Andrea embraced the extremist sermons. He preached, "the role of women is derived from the sin of Eve and that bad mothers who are going to hell create bad children who will go to hell." Andrea was so totally captivated by Woroniecki that Rusty and Andrea's family grew concerned.
    ----------------------------------------------------------

Those lyrics fit Andrea Yates perfectly, plus if you go to Hurt's page on myspace, you will see a strange picture for the song "Rapture" which shows somone holding a baby by the leg, submersing it's head under water.

Could be wrong, but that's the interpretation I got.

Now, I totally agree with the whole religion thing, because it's most talked of in the song, but could sanity be a factor?
What if the wife/girlfriend was so stressed out, not just her religious laws, but the struggle to make her relationship work, that under so much pressure from all this just built up inside and she just snapped. Like could this be a result of postpartum depression? I was thinking this when I first heard the song, I knew there had to b more to it than that, but could this be something?

I believe when he says " one who would not deny lovers" its sounds also like "one who would not deny love us" Which is a small matter till the "burn with me" part which is the realization that though the couple came from totally different paths they were both wrong. All of the dictionary meanings of the song title are applicable and I would have to say this is a creepy song

He also accepts his mistake, but I believe he doesn't believe in religion, and if his wife or girlfriend believes in it so strongly then he says - if this must be, then burn with me, anything..just don't leave. Sinful things - suffering, I think this song might actually be accepting that he and his wife or girlfriend are goin to hell and won't be accepted when the rapture comes.

It should also be noted that "rapture" is being played with in this song. In one sense, "rapture" means a feeling of ecstasy. However, I think the final meaning is the born-again Christian interpretation of "rapture" which is the time where Christ comes to take the righteous from Earth to Heaven.

Ok, this song is about two people in love, but shouldn't be by religion or for some odd reason. He believes that the god in either of his or her religon would've denied them to be lovers....but never happend, so he wants her to believe in him and love him. So they have a baby and she ends up killing it..it's not what he wanted though, and he hates her religion in a way because the baby should've never been born. She believes jesus told her it was wrong to keep it, and she did what she felt was needed. This is what I get out of the song, I'm not 100% sure if I am correct though.
