My Chemical Romance: Disenchanted Meaning

Album cover for Disenchanted album cover

Disenchanted Lyrics

Well, I was there on the day
They sold the cause for the queen
And when the lights all went out
We watched our lives on the screen

I hate the ending myself
But it started with an alright scene

It was the roar of the crowd
That gave me...

My take on the song is it's about their life and somehow being disillusioned afterwards. As Gerard said, it's about waking up from a dream and realized it's over and it could all happen to you. I just love the lines 'you're just a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait...' so sad but relateable. admirable lyrics and poignant melody sung passionately and it just makes me cry every time. my favorite song from mcr indeed.

I'm pretty sure it's about someone dying and his life flashing before his eyes, only to wake up and find out that he was really dead.

I was listening to the song (and I am now) It's Gerard looking back at his life. He hates how his life is ending, people he knows dying, past girlfriends, drinking, drugs, and do on. And his life started out pretty good. But he joined a group of people that weren't good for him(referring to the old drummer in the band)They smiled and acted nice but they weren't. How they never learned anything. Now, he left them, and his life is better, but his friends lives meant nothing, they simply would die and be forgotten about.

I think this is the patient looking back at his life and... Talking to himself? or it could be his friend talking to him, but really he's thinking and wondering if it was a good life, remembering all the good and bad moments.

I'm actually finding it really hard to work out the meaning to this song but I love it and think it is the best song on the album.

"This is a song about waking up from a dream and finding its gone, one day this will happen to all of you."
    -Gerard Way.

I think a lot of the songs about how the bands grown up. How they've changed since 'I Brought You My Bullets...'. "We watched our lives on the screen" I think is about how big they now are, they can watch their lives, everyone knows about them now.
"It was the roar of the crowd that gave me heart ache to sing" I think this is almost a tribute to the fans. And about how they've helped the band through so much.
"It was a lie when they smiled and said you won't feel a thing" They're thanking them for their support.
"I spent my high school career spit on and shoved to agree" It's kinda saying how they're still bitter about what happened to them at school.
"well if you think that I'm wrong, than how can you listen all night long" This I think is having a dig at the people who say they've gone main stream.

Anyway sorry it took so long.

I think this is about life and how you have to enjoy it in the moment. No matter what your going to die so it is "a lifelong wait for hospital stay." Still you have to enjoy it. I mean seriously, running from the cops is actually quite fulfilling. It makes you feel like you've seized the day. Anyway. And the pare "if you think that I'm wrong this never meant nothing to you" says that if you think that you shouldn't live your life while you've got it, it means nothing to you and neither does what I'm saying

    EMO FREAKS RULE!! (//_-)

This song is one of my favorites on the CD. I don't know what it means, but it's one hell of a song. I like to listen to it as I cry in my room at night, thinking about all the bad crap going on in my life.

omg....the person who did the longest entry...she/he wrote "anonymous" as her name...that was great! I totally agree wit you. I don't really think it's about 9/11...i think that, that will not be brought up to much in their songs anymore. plus, it's about the patients life, soooo 9/11 probly won't be involved in "his"life. because, well I just don't really think so.

I think its bout 9/11 when the planes hit the towers. I could be wrong, but when the lyrics say: "it was a lie when they smiled and said you won't feel a thing," is probably saying that like the plane hitting the towers and the hijackers saying that they won't feel a thing in their body. When the lyrics state "and as we ran from the cops, we laughed so hard it would sting" means probably that some people were running away from the towers that were falling. When they were "laugh so hard it would sting" means that they were coughing the smoke out of their lungs and trying to survive. I may be wrong, but that's what I think. Every time I hear this song I cry cause my because died in the plane on 9/11.:'(.sorry.

With all that Gerard and the guys have stated about the making of this album, or DURING the making of it, I find this and several other songs on this album to be very revealing.
The thought that this album is all about "the patient" is very romantic, isn't it? And it's obviously working for them. But the truth is, most of these songs are much more personal and closer to them than you may can imagine.
Several major incidents happened during the time of preparing and making this piece of work (their best so far). Do you honestly believe they couldn't bring those things with them into these songs?
These incidents could be seen as terminal conditions, or definitely, inevitable conclusions to certain things in their lives. There is a strong tone of reluctant acceptance throught this album.
Think about what they have talked about in some of the interviews they've given and then you'll start seeing these songs totally opposite of what you were originally told to see them as.

I think that this song is about how after the patient has looked back on most of his life, he tries to excuse what an asshat he's been by bringing up the good times, and blaming other people. In the end, he comes to terms that it's his own fault, but it doesn't matter. It doesn't even matter to him anymore. He's watching himself as a little boy, as a teen, as a young man, and as a full fledged adult, and wishes he could tell his younger selves that nothing he did in his life was wort a damn. Just 'A lifelong wait for a hospital stay'.
