You were lonely and out of place
You were looking down on me
Lost out in space
We laid underneath the stars
Strung out and feeling brave
I watched the red orange glow
I watched you float away

Actually, lead singer Raine Maida claims that this isn't a break-up song, but actually a song about a relationship that has gotten old and boring. He says his inspiration is from going to a restaurant and seeing a couple sitting in complete silence.

This song is obviously about the loss of a loved one. I interpret that the perished individual took their own life by way of suicide. I could be wrong but I doubt these lyrics are about the break up with a boy/girlfriend or a fight with a close friend... this song is definitely written in means to the death of a someone very close to their heart.

I think it's about a guy who misses someone, but has hope that he'll see that person again.

It is about his relationship with his wife Chantal. She blew up in Canada and was always on the road touring and making records. He looks at her fast paced life and his own and the distance between them. The second verse is poignant in two ways. First, he quotes Kurt Cobain's suicide note, hoping that his wife doesn't lose her sense of life out there. And then he also quotes With Or Without You by U2 in this longing way. It is brilliant that he ties these two lines in together.

I think it's about a girl who left him previously but she's coming back and he doesn't want to loose her again.

On the fourth stanza and second to last verse the words "I'm praying that you don't burn out/Or fade away " is a reference I think to Kurt Cobain. In his suicide note he wrote ".... It's better to burn out then fade away..." presumably, I think this song is a sort of conversation the writer wanted to have with Kurt.

I really think this song is about feeling depressed and alone. This person feels so lonely and it feels like he is the only one on earth. He is calling out on anyone who is there besides him.
