Paramore: Playing God Meaning
Song Released: 2009
Playing God Lyrics
Or make any with precision
Well maybe you should tie me up
So I don't go where you don't want me
You say that I been changing
that I'm not just simply aging
Yeah how could that be logical?
Just keep on...

#1 top rated interpretation:Playing God is about judging each other
and trying to control someone.
"Can't make my own decisions
Or make any with precision
Well maybe you should tie me up
So I don't go where you don't want me"
When hayley says she can't make her own decisions or any with precision
you can just feel the bitter sarcasm.
She's feeling how someone is trying to push her around, and make her feel like she's lousy or a mess or can't do anything right.
And when she says
"Next time you point a finger
I might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger
I'll point you to the mirror"
Pointing a finger essentially means putting the blame on someone else other than you, or judging them.
Hayley shows her anger (and i totally would to) by saying she'd break his finger off.
And by saying she'd point you to the mirror
she says that "you're no better" and "don't push the blame"
"If God's the game you're playing
Well we must get more acquainted
Because it has to be so lonely
To be the only one who's holy"
When she says this..
she's talking about someone thinking they are God.. or PERFECT in other words and flawless.
and when she says it has to be so lonely to be the only one whose holy...
she's saying "No one wants to play your game.." and that she's reflecting his thoughts.. that only he is perfect and everyone else in his eyes are full of flaws. and that he would never screw up.
It's basically shouting out to self centered people who think they're the boss..
That.. You're not perfect.
Looking in the mirror essentially is telling someone to seek the truth as well.
The repetitiveness also shows the annoyance in the singer at this person. -

#2 top rated interpretation:Can't make my own decisions
Or make any with precision
Well maybe you should tie me up
So I don't go where you don't want me
= (If I'm just "doing everything SO wrong," why don't you just PLAY GOD and live my life for me?)
You say that I been changing
that I'm not just simply aging
Yeah how could that be logical?
Just keep on cramming ideas down my throat
= (You keep judging but I'm ME. I'm not you.)
You don't have to believe me
But the way I, way I see it
= (Our opinions might be different, but this is my side of the story... vvv)
Next time you point a finger
I might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
= (PLEASE stop judging, because you're starting to piss me off.)
Next time you point a finger
I'll point you to the mirror
= (You keeping judging me, but look at yourself.)
If God's the game you're playing
Well we must get more acquainted
Because it has to be so lonely
To be the only one who's holy
= (Come on, lets get more people in on this! It must get lonely at times being the only one that's right)
It's just my humble opinion
But it's one that I believe in
You don't deserve a point of view
If the only thing you see is you
= (I'm just saying: You don't deserve to judge others of the only opinion you'll accept is the one of your own.)
You don't have to believe me
But the way I, way I see it
Next time you point a finger
I might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger
I'll point you to the mirror
= I'll already wrote it above. d:
This is the last second chance
(I'll point you to the mirror)
= (this is your last chance to stop. [?])
I'm half as good as it gets
(I'll point you to the mirror)
= (I'm not perfect. [?])
I'm on both sides of the fence
(I'll point you to the mirror)
= (I know you're kind of right, but I know I am too.)
Without a hint of regret
I'll hold you to it
= ( I know those things for sure. [Stuff in bridge...I think.])
I know you don't believe me
But the way I, way I see it
Next time you point a finger
I might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger
I'll point you to the mirror
= Already said.
I know you won't believe me
But the way I, way I see it
Next time you point a finger
I might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger
I'll point you to the mirror
= (You guys don't seem to get it [narrow mindedness]...ANd you're starting to piss me off. Quit trying to judge me, and look at yourself for a change.)
P.S. I may be wrong about all of this. :P It's just MY interpretation. -

#3 top rated interpretation:this is hayley talking to her band members. they all look at her basically saying that the media and fame has taken over her life and she has become a different person, but she is stating that she just grew up, and wants to voice her own opinion instead of following what everyone else wants. telling her band members not to point her finger or she'll fight back, and next time something was to be said about her becoming someone else she would remind them of who they have become since fame took over their lives.
she is saying that she is on the verge of quitting and that the next time something like this was to happen, she's out. -
it's not all the band she's talking to. Just the Farro's. Especially Josh. She's trying to tell us that the sun doesn't shine from his reer end. And she's right it doesn't, but Josh knew since the end of RIOT! that the fame had gotten to Hayley and was sick of the negative lyrics she was writing. I love Paramore, more than anything but Hayley pushed them away, she knows that. She's just moved on, like the brothers have. Her feelings then get carried in to their new songs 'Monster' and 'In The Mourning'

hey Marsha! I had just finished reidang Traveling Light by Max Lucado(book about the 23rd Psalm; GREAT BOOK btw!) days before I got the call that my dad was in the hospital. I don't know if I've told you, but he went into cardiac arrest, was revived 10 minutes later by a co-worker, hospitalized and pronounced brain dead, awaiting my sister's and my arrival to give the word to discontinue life-preserving measures (phew! mouthful, I know). I hadn't spoken to my dad in 9 years. Through the gut-wrenching 2 weeks that followed, the 23rd Psalm provided all of the strength I had; I know it was not my own. That book came to me at the critical moment. I bought it on a whim from a Dollar General bookshelf for 3 bucks. God's timing was perfect! Much of my memory of that time is walking the halls of the hospital trying to breathe and reciting Psalm 23. I'm thankful.

the song is talking about her, how they think shes the one that has changed, and people are pointing fingers at her, and she is simply saying look at yourself
