   I think the part Christina Aguilera sings is about being in Heaven at the end of life, with brilliant light, a mansion (castle) of gold, (pearly) gates. "But until the gates are open" means, before she died and enters those gates.
   
   That's my take on the chorus. The rest I'll leave to others.
