Going in Blind Lyrics

One Day, Some Day

This life's not like you wanted it.
His eyes I can see again, I need you here.
In your mind, nobody's listening.
It's alright not to feel again, just breathe again.

Time after time, I walk the fine line.
Something...

This song has a DEEP meaning to it. Keep in mind that POD is a Christian band (or at least the lead singer is) but they don't want to be labeled in that genre because they want to share their music with everyone.

You also have to understand that not everyone that professes their faith in Christ is truly a Christian and that some do struggle with letting go of their old lives. I had this struggle because I knew the truth but had a hard time denying myself and giving my life to God. (Luke 9:23-24)

So I spent a good number of years struggling with God (literally) because he wanted me but I kept resisting because of fear. Then I would say one day and someday I will really follow God and stop living a life full of sin. Notice the first words in the song.

    ONE DAY, SOME DAY
(Someone is thinking one day someday I will follow Christ)
THIS LIFE'S NOT LIKE YOU WANTED IT.
(When we turn from God, things typically are all right until something in our lives makes a turn for the worst. As we look back at our life, at that point, and think about the way it used to be. We then start to see where we had come from and realize that we totally fell from where we were and turned out that our lives went in the complete opposite of where we wanted it to be.)
HIS EYES I CAN SEE AGAIN, I NEED YOU HERE.
(Suddenly we realize whom we need. We need the one who will save us from our life of shame and guilt. We need him to comfort us.)
    IN YOUR MIND, NOBODY'S LISTENING.
(When we pray we feel like we are sometimes praying to the ceiling. That our prayer’s are not being heard.
On the other hand you could be dealing with things and try to vent by talking to friends and family but it seems like everyone isn't listening to you)
IT'S ALRIGHT NOT TO FEEL AGAIN, JUST BREATHE AGAIN.
(It’s so overwhelming sometimes and so emotional that we become emotionally drained and numb but this verse is saying that it’s ok to feel that way just calm down and breath. Breathing in deep and slowly helps relax people when they are at a moment of panic and stress. Its saying relax and calm yourself.)
TIME AFTER TIME, I WALK THE FINE LINE.
(Saying that he is struggling with what Chip Ingram says is the "Christian Treadmill". Basically having sinned multiple times, sometimes doing the same sin over and over again. This can make you feel like you are close to God turning away from you and leaving you to stay in a state of sin to live a worldly life.)
    SOMETHING KEEPS BRINGING ME BACK.
(But God is a forgiving God and he wants you to come back to him.)
AND TIME AFTER TIME, I'M GOING IN BLIND.
(When you are in that state where God has forgiven you then you think, “ok now what? I don't know what to do? It’s like I’m in the dark with no guidance.”)
I DON'T KNOW WHICH WAY I NEED TO GO.

FEELS LIKE YOUR WORLD IS CAVING IN.
(Again he is describing what it feels like when your broken. When you know you've failed again and things just start going wrong, one after another. You don't have peace or rest or anything to comfort you. You start missing that peace... you know that peace in your life once was experienced when your life was focused on God.)
AND I CRY, FAILING TO UNDERSTAND, I WISH I CAN.
(Atleast for me, I failed a lot of times before because I didn't have any guidance. I didn’t know what I had to do and how to keep going. What I didn't realize was that God did give me guidance but I just refused to do the things he asked me to do. So in my ignorance I would say that I also cried out failing to understand and I wanted to know why I didn't change my life.)
IT'S ALRIGHT IF YOUR MISSING HIM.
IN HIS EYES YOU CAN LIVE AGAIN, FREE WITHIN.
(You start to miss Christ. He was the peace in your life. When you feel that you can't go back to God because of how ashamed you feel, He sees it differently. He wants you to come back to him no matter what. There is nothing, NOTHING, in this life that you have done that God won’t take you back from.)

TIME AFTER TIME, I WALK THE FINE LINE.
    SOMETHING KEEPS BRINGING ME BACK.
AND TIME AFTER TIME, I'M GOING IN BLIND.
I DON'T KNOW WHICH WAY I NEED TO GO.

TIME AFTER TIME, I WALK THE FINE LINE.
    SOMETHING KEEPS BRINGING ME BACK.
BUT TIME AFTER TIME, I CAN'T SEE THE SIGNS.
I DON'T KNOW WHICH WAY I NEED TO GO.

DO ALL THESE ROADS LEAD ME BACK TO YOU?
(Asking this question is rhetorical. At this point, you’re starting to realize that no matter how far you stray from God, you end up coming back to him. Your going down all these walks of life finding that you are being lead back to the same road you started and its like the road you started from is the only one you haven’t traveled on. Its narrow my friends. Not many people will walk down that road. You have to make that choice. The prize at the end of that road is unimaginable. Nothing on this earth and nothing that has been written can come close to describing what it will be like.)
    COUNT ON NOTHING
(Don't count on anything in this world. Money, friends, family, jobs, relationships, these things will let you down at times. Only God is the true constant. Never changing, never failing, and always their when you need him. He never left. Count on God. TRUST in him.)
I DON'T KNOW WHICH WAY I NEED TO GO.

    ONE DAY...SOME DAY!

TIME AFTER TIME, I WALK THE FINE LINE.
    SOMETHING KEEPS BRINGING ME BACK.
TIME AFTER TIME, I'M GOING IN BLIND.
I DON'T KNOW WHICH WAY I NEED TO GO.

TIME AFTER TIME, I WALK THE FINE LINE.
    SOMETHING KEEPS BRINGING ME BACK.
AND TIME AFTER TIME, I CAN'T SEE THE SIGNS.
DO ALL THESE ROADS LEAD ME BACK TO YOU?

    ONE DAY.

I know for some this is hard to believe I can pull all of this out of one song but I’ve listened to A LOT of POD and know that whoever writes these lyrics truly has a walk with God and struggles like every human being. I know also that he reads the bible because I’ve heard in a lot of his songs, references to God’s promises only written in the bible.

"One day...Some day..." Remember those lines, we'll get back to that later.

"This life's not like you wanted it." How many people right now are living the exact life that they envisioned themselves living when they were just a kid? Honestly, are you really living the life exactly the way? Probably not.

"His eyes I can see again, I need You here." Singing to God, letting Him know that the singer needs Him.

POD switches who they are referring to in their songs very quickly if you really look at the lines. They switch from first person to third to second very rapidly in many of their songs which is okay since this is poetry, not an essay.

To the audience "In your mind, nobody's listening. It's alright not to feel again, just breathe again..." He reassures the audience that they will be okay. They just need to live their life and have faith in themselves.

"Time after time I walk the fine line,
But something keeps bringing me back.
Time after time I'm going in blind,
I don't know which way I need to go..." He's admitting to God that he makes mistakes, that he isn't perfect and sometimes he quite frankly isn't there. He pleads to God though that no matter how far he parts, he does come back and he is there again.

The second verse goes back to talking with the audience, "Feels like your world is caving in
And I cry, failing to understand,
    I wish I can...
It's alright if you're missing him,
In his eyes you can live again,
Free within!" He is saying that he is in the same boat as the listener, that he too is going through problems. He is saying that he too at times is without God. But he is also saying that with God as your eyes you will find your way through your problems just like me.

The fact that the second chorus is much faster and a lot happier suggests a turn-around of events. Things will get better and life will be better with God's eyes as your own.

The last verse specifically rests with POD confessing to God that they do make mistakes that they do wander away from God's plan. They ask God if they will always come back to Him, no matter what they do or where they go.

The chorus also tells God that He needs to let the band know which way they need to go when they state that they don't know which way they need to go more and more definitely as the song progresses. They still ask if they can always go back, even if they are going the completely wrong way.

The very end of the song has the same two words that started the song off. "one day..." This could mean one of two things really, first that the person just needs to keep living because one day he/she will find God again. Also, I took it as one day the person will find God again, but that could be one day too late as God is the beginning and God is the end.

In his eyes you can live again, free within" you feel like nothing with out them and all you think about is them
"Time after time, I walk the fine line
    Something keeps bringing me back
Time after time, I can't see the signs
I don't know which way I need to go

Do all these roads lead back to you?
I don't know which way I need to go"
You're still going the same way and you can't find your way back to them
"One day, some day..." You may be back with them again some day
