   This song is about waking up after a couple hours of restless sleep from doing coke/speed the night before. But, more so it's about his mental state sunday morning. He walks around seeing all these images of "family" and "wholesomeness", and he knows he's missing that innocence. He drinks alcohol right when he wakes up to self medicate the lack of dopamine.
   
   "and lord it took me back to something I lost somewhere along the way"
   
   He wishes he was stoned so it doesn't bother him and he can forget. He wants to be stoned to end the self loathing. Definately captures how you feel sunday morning coming down; great song.

   Written by Kris Kristofferson it spoke of his life at the time. Working as a janitor by day while trying to make a living through his songwriting. Sunday morning hangover after playing a local honky tonk on Saturday night.

   A nostalgic song about a down and out chap who had ruined his life with drink and drugs.dirty clothes, nothing but beer in the fridge.wandering around aimlessly being reminded of what his life could have been like had he'd stayed clean. The lyrics brilliantly capture the innocence by mentioning the kids singing in sunday school,the carefree boy kicking a can and cussing,the church bell. the sunday dinner.

   A lonely musician on the road "pickin songs" in saloons! Chasing stardom only to find it's not a fulfilling goal after all. Longing for the simple life of a quiet Sunday morning when he was young, he aches and wants relief from lifes pain and disappointments, thus, " I'm wishin' lord I was stoned!". He's hoping to dull the emptiness he feels.
   He is reminded, looking at the empty Sunday sidewalk of loved ones long gone, or far away, "there is something In a Sunday that makes a body feel alone!" He longs to return to a more innocent time when the world, exciting and fresh, lay before him and all things were possible and his time not yet squandered. Great song!

   you guys got it alllll wrong. this song is about waking up still hammered and still wanting more. he saw a "small kid playing with a can" means a cop. so he crossed the street into a strip joint aka "fried chicken." because of the booze he couldnt remember all the cool shit he did so it took him back to something he lost. his bosy feels alone because he wants to bang a hooker and its so sad to him that there are others who are in need of hookers just like him. SO In the park he saw a "daddy" aka pimp who was "swinging" aka selling a drugged up little girl. So he took her behind the school and banged her then left. The lonely bell means gun shot cause hes in the hood. It was so loud but no ones doing anything about the gunshot, just another day in da hood getting stoned getting banged out and keep on going. THATS THE MEANING OF THE SONG!

   Johnny Cash led One helluva life in his addiction and out. Although Kris Kristofferson Penned this one, Johnny brought it home. S.M.C.D. is about the sheer and utter sadness And aloneness that a person feels while in active addiction. It's so much more than just a Sunday morning, it's the gut-wrenching,soul-ripping idea that there is so much moreto living life than we experience within the limits of active using. Sunday Morning encompasses all the chances we had,the friendships destroyed, the life wasted. It is the recognizing ,finally, that life and it's fulfillment are a choice that only we,as individuals can decide to enjoy and that we are ,after all, together in this journey we call Life! Carpe Diem!!

    I LOVE this song soooooo much........
    It's my favorite, ever.
    I mean how can you not love it? The lyrics are so depressing,
    but the music is so happy and up-beatish, y' know?
    It's deep, too, and although at first you think, okay, just another Johnny Cash song, him singin' 'bout life and all, and here comes the chilling line (For me, anyway):
    "And lord, it took me back to something that I'd lost somewhere, somehow, along the way..."
    And you're like, oh, a depressing song with a MEANING, okay...
    God, I love that song.
    And the second verse....the church bells in the backround..... and:
    "And it echoed through the canyons, like the disapearin' dreams of yesterday."
    Ah, I love it.
    HEY, interpretation (however ya spell it)TIME:
    Maybe the music represents what he had and what he longs for (Cuz it's happy) and the (sad) tone of the song represents waht is reality and how his life is now.
