Good Left Undone Lyrics

In fields where nothing grew but weeds,
I found a flower at my feet,
Bending there in my direction,
I wrapped a hand around its stem,
I pulled until the roots gave in,
Finding there what I’ve been missing,
But I know…
So I tell myself, I...

    "All because of you,
    I believe in angels.
    Not the kind with wings,
No, not the kind with halos,
The kind that bring you home,
When home becomes a strange place.
    I'll follow your voice,
All you have to do is shout it out."

It shows that the girl he has found has changed his life so much, that because in a 'field full of weeds', he could find an 'Angel', someone who to him is so incredibly perfect in his life that just being around her makes it feel as though he is 'home', much in that a home is not a house, but where the heart is.

"All because of you I believe in angels, not the kind with wings, no, not the kind with halos, the kind that bring you home when home becomes a strange place..."

This is my personal interpretation, she made him believe in someone amazing, not literally angels but someone that could make his life in the strange uncomfortable place, a place that he can comfortably call home. She picked him up, and made him believe in good things again. Shes not literally and angel, she doesnt have wings or a halo, but he believes in better things because of this person.

I think this means he is waiting for the girl (aka the angel) and that she will bring him back his old life, and that he will follow her if she says to

I think the site is called lyric interpretations
meaning people come here to submit what they feel when they hear this song.
I know I come to this site when I can't figure out a song and look at what others view it as. Please accept the fact that everyone has a opinion.

I think this song is about a guy who falls in love with a unique girl, one who stands out from the others. He tugs and pulls trying to make her his. Until she gives in because she makes him happy after being sad for so long.

Soon she began to hurt and he was the one hurting her. He told himself it's wrong, but he's hurt her too much already. I think that guilt and the pain of having to leave her makes it difficult to sleep and when he does he dreams nightmares. As soon as he hears her say I want you back, don't feel guilty, I'm okay, he'll come back. As soon as she says she wants him.

He believes in angels, because she is one to him. She saved him from sadness. She guides him in the right direction.

Who cares what their songs are about? Rise Against is one of the few bands I know that don't involve drugs, partying, and sex in their lyrics. I like them because their not vulgar or insulting. Whatever their songs mean to you, is the meaning.

it could just be about losing someone special, someone importnant. and it goes on about how its difficult dealing with the loss, like difficult to sleep. i think the end is about how the persn is like an angel because they died, and wishing they were still alive, and that his home is a strange place now and wants to follow that person to heaven

he was in love. its gone now. he still loves her. he can be anyone. he knows he wants her back but does she want him back? he cant get the thing he needs ie"All because of you,
I haven't slept in so long.
When I do I dream of drowning in the ocean,
Longing for the shore where I can lay my head down" he cant relax like he's struggling in an ocean, and the voice, if it calls him, he'll have relief. its turmoil. the fact that its over. he wants her to want him back. this kinda thing kills.

My views on this song differ from everyone elses. I don't believe this song has anything to do with a "girl" "boy" relationship. I believe it has to do with humans relationship with the enviorment and "she" is mother nature. He begins the song speaking about pulling up a flower from weeds. Then goes on to say "There's a point from which we can't return". An us as humans are destroying all the beauty in the world and were getting to that point of no return, and to the "coming storm". Because of this destruction he hasn't slept. The voice is mother nature telling us to stop. Then he tries to fix the flower like we try to fix the enviorment but its too late.

For all who think this song is about the world, I would agree that Rise Against does songs like that; you do have to remember however that Rise Against always talks metaphorically in their songs. In this song, it uses the world as the direct object, therefore, if you look at it metaphorically, they are talking about love. If you just look at the song you will see the whole thing right there.

"The fields grew nothing but weeds, I found a flower at my feet, Bending there in my direction."

He found that somebody that he loves.

"I put a hand around its stem, I pulled until the roots gave in, Finding now what I've been missing."

He went for the girl, and got her. He found love; what he was missing.

"But I know, So I tell myself, I tell myself it's wrong. There's a point we pass from which we can't return. I felt the cold rain of the coming storm."

This could mean that he has fallen out of love with her, thought he did, or just sensed that his lover was out of love with him.

"All because of you, I haven't slept in so long, When I do I dream, I'm drowning in the ocean, longing for the shore, where I can lay my head down, I'll follow your voice, all you have to do is shout it out."

At this point he says he wishes it weren't over, and if she would like to continue the relationship eventually, he will be ready for it.

"Inside my hands these pedals browned, Dried up, fallen to the ground, But it was already to late now."

The love was over for the period of time.

"I pushed my fingers into the earth, I returned the flower to the dirt, So it could live, I walked away now.

He broke up with her so she could be free to do as she wished.

"But I know, Not a day goes by where I don't feel the burn, There's a point we cross from which we can't return. I found the cold rain of the coming storm."

He regrets doing it, and the part where he says he crossed a line from which he can't return is when he says that he is still in love.

    CHORUS

"All because of you. All because of you."

Emphasis on the fact that he loves her.

"All because of you, I haven't slept in so long, When I do I dream, I'm drowning in the ocean, longing for the shore, where I can lay my head down, Inside these arms of yours."

He's wishing he could get back to the girl.

"All because of you, I believe in angels, Not the kinds with wings, No, not the kinds with halos, The kinds that bring you home. When home becomes a strange place, I'll follow your voice. All you have to do is shout it out."

He's saying that when home becomes a strange place (the other person she is with) he is ready to get back with her. He is also saying that he believes she is an angel in which can accept him back.

Mk so what I believe this song is about is a relationship (no surprise there) but one that was harmful to both parties

"In fields where nothing grew but weeds,
I found a flower at my feet,
    bending there in my direction."
meaning something along the lines of he found a girl that was unique or special and that she liked him also because she was "bending in my direction"

"I wrapped a hand around its stem
and pulled until the roots gave in,
finding there what I've been missing.
    And I know"
meaning that she completed his life and he needed her

"So I tell myself, I tell myself, it's wrong.
There's a point we pass from which we can't return.
I felt the cold rain of the coming storm"
meaning that he has become so infatuated with he that he could tell she was pulling away

    "All because of you,
I haven't slept in so long.
    When I do I dream
    of drowning in the ocean;
    longing for the shore
where I can lay my head down.
    I'll follow your voice;
all you have to do is
    shout it out!"
means simply that he's obsessed with her and would do anything for her

    "Inside my hands these petals browned;
dried up falling to the ground,
but it was already too late now
I pushed my fingers through the earth,
    returned this flower to the dirt;
so it could live, I walked away now.
    But I know"
is meaning that he has been a bad influence and has made her worse off and he is deserting her so that she can get back on her own two feet

"Not a day goes by when I don't feel this burn.
There's a point we pass from which we can't return.
I felt the cold rain of the coming storm"
is meaning that he knows that he messed things up for both of them and he can't change the past and the future isn't looking to bright

second chorus is meaning that he is still obsessed with her and he can't help it

The repeated chorus is reiterating the fact that he still is madly in love with her and when he says "Inside these arms of yours." he tells her straight up that he can't ever stop loving her

The last little bit is talking in metaphor about a guardian angel for his heart because home is where the heart is and the "angel" he talks about leads him to home when home is a strange place and all he needs from her is for her to ask him

This is the response to the question at the bottom.

"This song is about a girl that is incredibly special to him, so he takes her as his own. He falls in love with this girl, but his selfishness is harming her, so, because he loves her, he lets her go. However, he still thinks of her all the time, and if she were to call him, he'd come back to her.

"in fields where nothing grew but weeds, I found a flower at my feet" - she is better than everyone else. Unique

"inside my hands these petals browned,
dried up, fallen to the ground"
    - his selfishness is hurting her, maybe even killing her.

    "all because of you,
i haven’t slept in so long.
When I do I dream of drowning in the ocean,"
    - he is still madly in love with her. He even dreams about herm and has nightmares because he they are separated.

    "i’ll follow your voice,
all you have to do is shout it out."
    - he will come back to her when she is ready.

I have some ideas about the last bit...

    "all because of you,
    i believe in angels.
    Not the kind with wings,
no, not the kind with halos,
the kind that bring you home,
when home becomes a strange place.
    I’ll follow your voice,
all you have to do is shout it out."

but I'm not very confident. What does this part mean?"

I think it means, As long as she is happy, he will be okay with himself, and like you said, If she is ready, He will come back to her.

i think this part means the person that the song is talking about (the "you") is the singers "Angel" and the part "the kind that bring you home, when home becomes a strange place" may mean the "angel" may have been trying to keep the singer safe, but he continued his self destructive behavior, which i could see as selfishness.

I think this is obviously about a girl.
    a "flower" and an "angel"?

    he thinks shes beautiful. simple.

"all because of you, i havent slept in so long"
he thinks about her too much.
"and when i dream im drowning in the ocean"
he loves her, so his dreams are confused and chaotic.
