Who Says Lyrics

[Verse 1]

I wouldn't want to be anybody else
You made me insecure
Told me I wasn't good enough
But who are you to judge
When you're a diamond in the rough
I'm sure you got some things
You'd like to change about yourself
But when...

This songs relates to me and my life because it has great meaning. This song means that we shouldn’t listen to what other people say about us. Nobody can tell us something bad about what we do or who we are. We shouldn’t let others change us because we’re perfect the way we are and we should embrace our beauty. It’s also about our inner beauty - we should just be ourselves instead of trying to be someone better as in: outer beauty. No one can’t tell us, girls that we can’t be perfect or achieve better things in life, and we’re not the best, not worth it, not pretty, not beautiful, not star potential, or not presidential just like in the song.

I’ve experienced this song in 6th grade, too. Sometimes, I hear people in school being mean to each other. They shouldn’t listen to those bullies. We shouldn’t judge people by what they look like. In the song it also says, “But who are you to judge.” It’s the personality about that person that matters the most-their inside and inner beauty. It’s not about what they look like on the outside. If someone looks nice outside doesn’t mean they could be nice inside. You have to know them first. Sometimes I get bullied, too and I hear people saying I’m not worth it but, that’s ok for me because I wouldn’t listen to them anyways. We shouldn’t judge a book by its cover either. Selena Gomez says that we’ve got every right to a beautiful life. She made this song to give her fans a message and yes, we, her fans, do understand that we should never listen to any thing negative because WHO SAYS we can’t be or do that?!

I think this song is to encourage mostly girls to be who they are and not let what other people say get to them. They so many opportunities that they bury coz of what they tell them. If they ignore all that and follow there dreams they will shine . Embrace ur beauty and don't change yourself for anyone.:)

For me, the message of the song is to accept ourselves for who we are and forget all the haters out there. Based on this line "I'm no beauty queen. I'm just beautiful me." it's like we don't need to be perfect just like the definition of being a beauty queen. We don't need to pretend to be someone, we just need to be ourselves. We need to accept ourselves for who we are so that people will accept us too. This line "You've got every right. To a beautiful life." means that we have all rights to live in this beautiful life. We don't need to hide from the dark or for being lonely because we are afraid to not be accepted by others. You have the right to be happy, we all have the right to be happy in this beautiful life. In this "Who says you don't pass the test. Who says you can't be the best." For me, it's like who you are to tell me that I can't do what I want and I'm not the best? no one can underestimate my strength. Since I know to myself that I can. Also, based on what I have read on websites Selena wrote this song for those who bullied her before when she is in elementary school. That's the reason why she wrote this song to tell everyone that no matter what you look like you need to be accepted.

Mom always tells me beauty comes from how you treat people and this song reminds me of everything she tells me also I have had a lot of people tell me I'm ugly so I know how it fells for people to call you ugly but I know i'm not alone.

I love this song. The song says that your haters are true lovers. Because they say that thing which you have. If they say you're not beautiful that means you're it means they are jealous to you . So believe in yourself , love yourself . Don't listen to the world
"The people would say something .their job itself is to speak".

I always thought it was about feeling good in your own skin. Some lines make it seem like it's about looking like a "beauty queen" or a "movie star" but it's about being happy as acewoting your flaws. That's nothing g wrong with wanting to be beautiful, but just remember not to change yourself for someone else. Whoever says you're not pretty is jealous of you.

Who says was released around the time demi went to rehab for anorexia. Selena and demi were alwaus very close so I think it is possible that Selena wrte this song to show support to her friend. It is about not letring what people sya make you think less of yourself.

Like most music in the industry, this song has a mixed message. On the surface this song talks about believing in yourself. As much as I would like to think shes singing about inner beauty, theres parts throughout the song that refer back to aesthetic's. The way something looks on the outside, or it's appearance. She even compares her beauty to a work of art. Which artwork is only aesthetically pleasing to the eye. More obvious parts are when she's saying who says ur not pretty, beautiful and perfect. She then says im just beautiful me. This backs up what I've been saying about her focusing on the appearance of something rather then the inner beauty. Someone who has true inner beauty would be humble enough to not make these claims about themselves. This song comes across as being self empowering but it also is just as much about being vain, egocentric, conceited, immodest, superior, and arrogant. look up the definition for these words, they all point at being one thing...too confident. Being confident is one thing but being overly confident is another. Haven't we all been around someone who is overly confident? ask your self if that was someone you enjoyed being around? One last thing, even though Selena said what the song means to her doesn't mean that was the intention or purpose of the song when it was written. Selena did not write this song, so i can't fault her for the lyrics but yet she is the one singing them. So she is the one spreading this message to her young fans. Who more than any age group will be effected by this very mixed message.

“I feel like girls my age tend to question themselves a lot, they tend to try to dress and try to be what they feel other people want to be. Everyone wants to follow the trend and what’s in and what’s cool. At the end of the day when you strip all that down, are you really proud of yourself are you really comfortable in your skin? That’s what the song represents for me.” - Selena Gomez

I love this song it always makes me feel happy no matter what's happeing in life and think that's really the point. It's jsut to make people feel happy about themselves and the choices and paths they take in their own life and teaches them to stand up for what they want even if it is you against your whole world.
