MakeDamnSure Lyrics

You've got this new head filled up with smoke
And I've got my veins all tangled close
To those jukebox bars you frequent
The safest place to hide

A long night spent with your most obvious weakness
You start shaking at the thought
You are...

This song is about a stalker... or maybe just a guy with an obsession. The don't really understand the beginning other then "The safest place to hide" refers to him hiding while spying on her. "A long night spent with your most obvious weakness" is referring to him spending time with her, so I would guess that they were friends, he just wanted more. "You are everything I want cause you are everything I'm not" he wants her because she's what he wants to be. "We lay together just not too close too close" He is close to her but not too close (as far as she knows) "But how close is close enough" Meaning how close can he get without being too close. "I just want to break you down so badly" meaning that he wants her to be in need of him. "In the worst way". He also has violent urges toward her "You are red, violent red". "I'm gonna make damn sure you won't ever leave. No you won't ever get too far from me" He won't let her get too far cause of his obsession.

I think songs mean different things to different people. To me, if it sounds like he wants to get revenge on someone who has hurt him and he doesn't want the person to get far because he want to get revenge. I know I'm wrong but I think it sounds like that.

To me, this song is about what a guy feels like would be the best idea to get this girl to need him. He must break her down to keep her. First there is the female in the song to consider. “To those jukebox bars you frequent/{They're} the safest place to hide/A long night spent with your most obvious weakness” To me that means she goes to “jukebox bars” to hook up. And her weakness is how she will have sex, just not commit. (The lines “my inarticulate store bought hangover hobby kit, it talks/It says, “You, oh you are so cool.” That reinforces the idea that she likes getting drunk and hooking up.) That’s where the “just not too close” comes in. Now the male cares (“You are everything I want”) about her, and believed that she cared about him. So he wants to break her down, and show her just how much she needs him. If she breaks, he can help her. “I’ll make damn sure you can’t ever leave” because after he breaks her and she will only want him to help keep herself together. “Well I trip over everything you say” means that he keeps being drawn in by her, even if he wants to pull away. So he wants to break her down “in the worst way” because he knows what she is doing to him. She may be afraid to commit, or she may just really not care. I’m not too sure on that idea. “You hollow out my hungry eyes” may mean that only she can fill the hunger that he feels.

It's about a guy and a girl obviously.. well.. I think that for some reason this guy and girl can't be together.. maybe they've tried in the past and it didn't work. whatever the reason is, they still have some kind of connection and love towards on and other... Specifically him. I think that they want to be together, but something is holding them back. The girl is confused (you've got this new head filled up with smoke) and he is nervous (i've got my veins all tangled close). She frequents bars, hiding from him, denying their love. I think when refers to her obvious weakness.. He means himself. He is her weakness.. That is why she hides from him. She is going through denial and he wants to break her down so badly, but she just isn't giving in. when he says they lay together, just not too close.. It is because they both feel this strong connection, but they are trying to fight it.

"My inarticulate store bought hangover hobby kit, it talks
It says, "You, oh, you are so cool."
Scissor shaped across the bed, you are red, violent red
You hollow out my hungry eyes
You hollow out my hungry eyes "

i think that they have consumed a bit of alcohol and he is not articulating his words right. They are all slurred. His hangover hobby kit is his inner self and he says she is cool, but with great sarcasm. They are obviously in a room of some sort (maybe his). The scissors shaped across the bed part means that they're bodies are shaped across the bed like scissors. She is red with passion, violent passion, he can tell. you hollow out my hungry eyes, means he is hungry for her and she is satisfying his craving.

he is going to make sure that she never leaves or gets too far because he doesn't want to stop loving her. He wants to be with her.

    Omg
get the lyrics right people, there is no line: 'i bite my tongue and take my time,' so please stop it

'you are everything I want, cause you are everything I'm not'
it's all like opposites attract and shizz, it reminds me of me and my ex, because it's like 2 people who are completly different and have this strange attraction.

You've got this new head filled up with smoke
And I've got my veins all tangled close
To those jukebox bars you frequent
{They're} the safest place to hide
A long night spent with your most obvious weakness
You start shaking at the thought you are everything I want
'Cause you are everything I'm not
I think when he's says "You've got this new head filled with smoke" I think he means that this girl he cares a lot about can't think straight and is being very hard headed and just can't accept the fact of her feelings for him and is confused.
"And Ive got my veins all tangled close" means that he's trying to get through to her but he just can't and is easily stressed out about the situation.
"To those jukebox bars you frequent
{They're} the safest place to hide " Means that maybe he doesn't have access to the bar and maybe she's seeing other people so she can get away with it or maybe its because she has a bar posse always protecting her or where she gets drunk to escape from her emotions.
"A long night spent with your most obvious weakness
You start shaking at the thought you are everything I want
'Cause you are everything I'm not " I don't think he's talking about him being everything she wants because she's everything he's not but maybe that's what the girl is saying in her head that maybe he's to good for her he actually treats her right and she starts shaking at the thought that maybe she's too good for him so she shakes at the thought you are everything I want because you are everything I'm not.

And we lay, we lay together just not
Too close, too close (How close is close enough?)
We lay, we lay together just not
    Too close, too close
I think that this means how close could they possibly et besides laying right near each other skin to skin but I also think it means emotionally wise and heart wise might even be closer "how close is close enough? not just physically but mentally and emotionally.

I just wanna break you down so badly
Well I trip over everything you say
I just wanna break you down so badly
    In the worst way

I think when he sais I wanna break you down so badly in the worst way might mean that he wants to maybe make love to her and be on that emotional closeness and break her down get her to confess how much she loves him and just cry in his arms.

My inarticulate store bought hangover hobby kit, it talks
It says, "You, oh, you are so cool."
Scissor shaped across the bed, you are red, violent red
You hollow out my hungry eyes
You hollow out my hungry eyes
i think here he talks about when she's drunk or when he's drunk they get these sexual desires for each other. You hollow out my hungry eyes meaning he has so much lust and love for him but she has so much control over him and tends to lead him on emotionally.

And we lay, we lay together just not
Too close, too close (How close is close enough?)
We lay, we lay together just not
    Too close, too close

I just wanna break you down so badly
Well I trip over everything you say
I just wanna break you down so badly
    In the worst way
When he said I wanna break you down so badly maybe now he's talking about the fact maybe thier not together anymore but she assumes things to make him think she still cares but when she sais things he trips over everything she sais because he might have high hope or intentions she might just break down and let her guard down and not rum from her feelings and tell him how she feels.

I just wanna break you down so badly
Well I trip over everything you say
I just wanna break you down so badly
In the worst way (worst way)
I think this is talking about now that even though thier not together he just wants to break her down emotionally so she stops playing head games and pyshing him away because he trips over everything she sais having good intentions it might be something good she sais but it mislead once again and wants to break her down by makinging love to her and breaking her down emotionally.

    {I bite my tongue. I take my time and}

I'm gonna make damn sure that you can't ever leave
No, you won't ever get too far from me
You won't ever get too far from me
I'll make damn sure that you can't ever leave
No, you won't ever get too far from me
You won't ever get too far from me
You won't ever get too far from me
You won't ever get too far...
I think when he sais I'm gonna make sure you can't ever leave meaning he's not ever gonna give up on the way he feels for her and just let her walking away knowing she does probably care and is just running and playing games. Even though she might put so much energy in making himmiserable just so she feels wanted probably means that she does care.
When he sais you won't ever get too far from me I think means that evey once in awhile he might show up and she knows in her heart that's there's a connection only they understand and espeecially when they look at each other and even though they have problems they won't ever let each other get too far away. Also I think he's never gonna let that love for her go.

I just wanna break you down so badly
Well I trip over everything you say
I just wanna break you down so badly
In the worst way (worst way)

    I'm gonna make damn sure
I just wanna break you down so badly
I just wanna break you down so badly (damn sure)
In the worst way (worst way)

In my opinion it is about a guy who either really wants an ex girlfriend or a friend..first verse shows confusion, frustration and how he feels
chorus is a metaphor meaning that they can be friends but no more"just not too close"
Break you down so badly,he wants to break down her feelings and try understand them..trip over everything etc.shows he's hung up on her
next verse:Considers revenge parhaps??"hollow out my hungry eyes"=attraction
"makedamnsure" "you won't ever get too far from me" "you can't ever leave" these three lines show that he wants the feelings sorted out and is determined to keep her in his life

VERY LIKELY I'M WRONG,OR READ TOO FAR INTO THIS SONG....HOPE I WAS OF HELP NONE THE LESS!!!

okay---so I've thought long and hard. I love this song-when I first heard it I thought "oh,he's in love with someone and he really cares for them and the feeling's not mutual,so now he's doing anything to keep them near"
but there are so many lines that make you think. like, I agree with whole "you've got this new head filled up with up with smoke. I've got my veins all tangled close.." in the first verse. which to me means that they once were in love and very close, however now she's doubting him and he's desperate to make her see that she still needs him. and when he says " a long night spent with your most obvious weakness, you start shaking at the thought..." means that she's still into sleeping with him but they don't lay as close together anymore because she's not there emotionally anymore. and then when he talks about the hangover hobby kit talking to him calling him cool it's like he's reassuring himself that he's still "the man" b/c he's with her again and she's laid down for him. but then he says she's red which-to me red represents "strenghth" and she's filling his eyes because yet again she has more power over him than he ever will over her. by the end of the song he wants to stop this and be the one who controls the relationship by breaking her down....hopefully for good.

im pretty sure it about a friend. He doesn't want to make the first move b/c she thinks of him just as a friend, yet he admires everything she does and "wants to break her down so badly" means he wants to break down the wall between being friends and being more than friends. Trust me on this one. I asked tbs myself.

"And we lay, we lay together just not
    Too close, too close"

This is about how the guy likes the girl and they are hooking up or more of a friends with benefits type of thing. He wants to be affectionate with her but he isn't sure how to act in order to balance what she wants and what he wants.

The reason that the girl doesn't like the guy back is because she thinks she is too good for him. Or even if she somewhat likes him, she is too good to have a relationship with him.(You've got this new head filled up with smoke..- is about how she is conceited)
The entire chorus "I just want to bring you down so badly" is about how he wants to get her to get rid of her high self image and make her openly like him.

Lol ^ that's the best interpretation ever. Xd

alors, the song is about angst and being just plain pissed off (result of expectations cut short).

Songs have different interpretations (if they're any good), but you should adopt mine as your own and show it off to your peers; you'll be interesting!

This song is not about a female, it's about an alcohol obsession.

    Well my inarticulate store bought
hangover hobby kit it talks (talks)
and it says, "you oh, you are so cool"
    scissor shaped across the bed
    you are red, violent red
you hollow out my hungry eyes
you hollow out my hungry eyes

okay, maybe I'm completely off base, but focusing in on "scissor shaped across the bed/you are red, violent red," has anyone considered that to possibly mean rape? Eveyone agrees this verse seems to be sexual, but "violent" is a pretty strong word choice. "scissor shaped across the bed" would mean her legs are spread apart and "red" would obviously mean blood. Also, it makes perfect sense that "hangover hobby kit" would imply alcohol. Don't a large percentage of rapes involve alcohol? There is an obvious tone of obsession in the song. "it talks (talks)/and it says, 'you oh, you are so cool'" is the alcohol giving him the false impression of consent from the girl. I think he's so determined to have something (relationship?) with this girl that he tries to force it both emotionally and physically. The chorus seems to, in my opinon, go along with that idea. The guy knows what he wants and is so determined to have it that he's forcing it without fully realizing it. "I just want to break you down so badly/in the worst way" his biggest obstacle is her and he wants to break down the barrier she has set up between them.

    Anyone at least semi-agree?
