At Least It Was Here Lyrics

Give me your hands
Show me the door
I cannot stand
To wait anymore
Somebody said
Be what you'll be
We could be old and cold and dead on the sea

But I love you more than words can say
I can't count the reasons I should stay

I'd say the song has a rather positive than negative tone to it. For me it is about someone who's in love, but is still not acting on it or doesn't think he's fully experienceíng it (be it by not proposing or having the wrong priorities such as money or career etc). The narrator tries to find reasons to stay in his old life, but finds himself wondering more and more if there might not be another way to live outside of the way imposed on him. So he's weighing the pros and cons, coming again and again back to the thought that life is short and you should make the best of it, and not give up on your dreams. For him, the best way to improve his life (that he is sick and tired of because it doesn't make him happy) is to just enjoy his life with his loved one.

I really get the impression that this song is about not being able to or knowing how to let go of somebody who is hurting them. The singer understands that being with this person is hurting them, but can't just seem to let go. He realizes he's making excuses, and by the end it seems like he's ready to let go. But the song cryptically ends on him saying "I love you more than words can say," possibly suggesting otherwise.
