Andy, You're A Star Lyrics

On the field I remember you were incredible
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
On the field I remember you were incredible
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
On the mats with the boys, you think you're all alone
With the pain that you drain from...

Augh okay all you ignorant morons. This is a gay song and it's really pathetic how FAR you're willing reach just to prove it's not.

    1. "In the car with the girl promise me she's not you're world". If the singer IS a girl then that means she's a lesbian right?

    2. "Andy you're a star in nobody's eyes but mine". Ok now don't try telling me the singer hates Andy or is jealous of him because obviously Andy is a star in the singer's eyes.

    3. "Leave your number on my locker and I'll give you a call". Self explanatory.

Ok. So I'm not saying Mr. Flowers is gay by no means. I think artists can sing whatever they'd like about whomever they'd like. I think this is a great song. But please. The narrator is clearly gay. CLEARLY.

Oh for the love of GOD. Can someone PLEASE do some critical analysis here! First of all, it is just stupid to assume that all Brandon's songs are autobiographical. Thats like saying Emily Dickinson had a crazy intense lovelife, or that Edgar Allen Poe really cut up an old man and put him under the floorboards.

That not withstanding, Brandon wrote this song knowing that he, a man, would be performing it, and there are distinct ambiguities in the context. Also, I think we can pretty much all agree that Andy is a football star, and if we follow that logic its not unreasonable to assume that the locker that is referred to is a GYM locker; something that only another guy would have access to. I'll admit I'm rather inclined to believe that the narrator is gay and after Andy, haha. I love the gays.

Ok So why does the narrator have to be male? Has anyone thought of that? Just because It’s a guy singing the song doesn’t mean that the song is about the person singing it. Simply said the narrator could be a female looking in on a guy she is infatuated with. I’m mean come on "hey shut up" is kind of girly. like when chick get together and talk "like whatever" and "no way" and "so not" its so early 90's just a thought!

Ok let me put this all straight.
1.) the killers are from las vegas ok there done done.
2.) brandon is bisexual ok not gay not straight bisexual!!
3.) its not about stalking it's about brandon, he had a crush on a guy in high school who's name is andy and he was a football player and he liked him that's it. Thus "on the field I remeber you where incredible."
there those are the facts ok don't not belive anything else.

The 'mine' in the line 'nobodys eyes but mine' is clearly collective for all the people (ie the town, the staff, the girls and boys at shcool) who've carefully watch Andy's talent unfold before them.

Haven't you ever seen someone with such incredible talent that you never want to see them be distracted (by a girl etc)
It's obviously a homage to a talented person form the perspective of admirers

Andy your a star is about this guy Andy Messersmith from Nephi, Utah. Andy was a big football star and wrestler. His plaques do line the halls in Juab high school. I go there I dusted those plaques. Andy thought he was a big shot and made fun of Brandon Flowers who also is from Nephi. Brandon flowers is from Nephi and he has family still lives here. So they aren't from Englad. Andy Messersmith's dad is the vice principal of Juab high school. I know Brandon Flower's family, and I know Andy's family. I know all about the song and what it is about and where all of the events took place. Andy Messersmith is from Juab. LIVE WITH IT!!!

The whole of HOT FUSS is a story. It moves in order on the CD and I don't quite remember how it goes, but it is of two people, one of them is killed and there is remorse and blah blah blah. If you listen to the songs in order and know every word it makes more sense. The whole CD is a story. Just listen.

Brandon flowers even said that it was about a crush he had on a football player in high school. no, he's not gay! he made it quite clear that he is certain of his straightness!

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

The Killers are not British, they are from Las Vegas! A recent review also said they were trying to be like The Cure and Bruce Springsteen, there are some strange people in this world I swear to God. Anyway, in relation to the song lyrics, it is definitely about someone watching the popular sports star who gets the girls (as they are from the US I shall say the Cheerleader type girls), wishing they were him. I am still not sure whether the singer is having a crush on Andy or whether he wants to be Andy and have the popularity that goes with it? Does the singer want all this and love the girl Andy is going out with at the moment (promise me she's not your world?) I also sometimes think that when he goes into the Andy your a star chorus, that I imagine the singer to be drunk and that its a sarcastic slant? Hmmmm, I think of something different each time - just gotta love The Killers man!

I'd have to agree with you I don't think it has anything to do with being gay. It's just a song that he wrote to his friend trying to let him know he's not alone. There's no evidence of a crush in the song, It's just a simple song to his friend.

Guys...c'mon. It's about a high school football star who is at his peak. He's throwing it away for steroids and girls. And the narrator is friends with this guy, telling him to change. I'm positive I'm right.

I'm pretty sure that this song is about brandon flowers (if he wrote it which he probably did) being confused about his sexuality and having a crush on a popular athletic star at his high school
    another quote from wikipedia-
"Flowers is viewed by some as a famous example of metrosexuality, as evidenced by his careful attention to fashion, grooming and even makeup."
though he is a married mormon...
i agree with whoever said the song seems quite creepy and stalker-ish
does anyone else think maybe the narrator has plucked up the courage to tell andy how he feels and is so obsessed he just keeps telling andy to shut up??
i think the line "In a car with a girl, promise me she's not your world" is not only refering to a specific girl but is the narrator asking if andy is totally straight
also "in nobody's eyes but mine" I think means he thinks no one feels for andy like he does
    not sure what the lines
"On the streets, such a sweet face jumping in town
In the staff when the verdict is in"
    are about though
    any suggestions?
i bet no ones read this whole comment! =]]

This song is clearly about his boy crush!! jesus, it's not that hard to figure out!!

Why do people just try to make it more complicated??!
WHY DON'T YOU JUST ASK BRANDON FLOWERS WHAT THE SONG IS ABOUT? I'M SURE HE'D TELL YOU!!

I read that Brandon Flowers admitted to having a man crush on an athlete at his high school. ("On the field I remember you were incredible" - "Leave your number on the locker and I'll give you a call").

    According to Wikipedia:

'In a QLas Vegas interview during 2004,... He claimed it was about a crush he himself had formed on a male athlete while attending high school. When asked about the male athlete in high school, he responded that he is "very aware of [his] sexuality" and that he does like women. Flowers has also stated that some confusion over his sexual identity is "not a bad thing," but did say "I'm not gay."'

Can't it just be a girl? Why does it has to be gay? Seems like brandon likes to sing from other people's perspective. Like he plays a king on bling, then he plays a guy on a police station with jenny, he plays a big indie rock and roll star in glamorous indie rock and roll (ok he's famous now, but he wasn't by the time he wrote the song). So I think he's just telling another story, not talking about himself. It's too complicated if you think it's him singing.
