I think Luke was going out with someone but she got an offer to go to Hollywood to be an actress so she was riding her bike to the airport while Luke was going to her house to give her flowers but she gets killed by a car and he ends up putting flowers by her grave stone.

    Ooh La - The Kooks

In their eyes is a place that you finally discovered
That you love it here, you've got to stay
On this bottom of some rock, an island
On which you find you love it when you twitch
You felt that itch in you pettycoat
    Your pretty pretty pettycoat

The Kook sings about a particular woman... The chosen ones see her in a magical musical world which is hidden from a select few (but not too many it seems). The enchanted place certainly is not "unknown" to the woman, although she can't see it at all. She is under a rock on the bottom of an island or buried alive somewhere deep in a forest. She adores twitching which happens when she gets wigged out by people who look at her in a funny way. Because she is either immersed way down in an ocean or rooted in the dirt, her pretty underwear is quite itchy. Brits don't use the word fanny for bum so please be careful when speaking about which portions of her gonadalia could be prickling & tingling. All we really know is that the main Kook is trying to get some point across about a sensation of wicked discomfort in her crotch area which evidently is in desperate need of relief. It has been proven that this type of music sells and The Kooks are aware of this.

Then you smiled, he got wild
You didn't understand that there's money to be made
Beauty is a card that must get played
    By organization

Her boyfriend goes insane when she smiles at him. This must have occurred prior to her being ostracized to her current locale. She had no idea that he could monetize their love for one another. She is very shocked to discover that most everyone else on earth knew that Love is an object to sell via books, movies, music, etc. She thought Love was a somewhat private situation between two or several people. Just like when your intimate bits are very irritated and raw and you think that no one would really WANT this type of information.. She is astounded to learn that people pay to hear and see all about her pretty petticoat & her chaffed chassis. It is a highly exciting mode of entertainment for many. She had no clue that groups would organize themselves in order to market her Love for her boyfriend, among other things. The entire world of monetary gain from truth, Love and beauty is news to her. Well... Not that she can admit or truly comprehend, but still.. She now believes this stuff happens.

And ooh la, she was such a good girl to me
And ooh la, the world just chewed her up and spat her out
And ooh la, she was such a good girl to me
And ooh la, the world just chewed her up and spat her out

Her big crime was loving her neighbour and kissing his cheeks & trying to be a good girl despite everything and PLAH! The world tried to eat her and then it regurgitated her in a violent manner which definitely sounds unpleasant for the chewed, exploited, partially ingested human. Being spat out is never a comfortable process for the chomped material in our mouths and we should think about this the next time we sputter, hack & cough out some poor mass that has been inhabiting our fly trap. Be sweet to the people in your maw. That is this girl's motto...

The world can be a very big place
So be yourself don't feel out of place
Love your man and love him twice
Go to Hollywood and you'll pay the price
    Don't go to Hollywood

She has now learned of the extreme unkindliness of the world at large. She has to go on with her life and not give a squirt as to what the folks who spewed her believe. She loves her boyfriend and has from the beginning. She has loved him once in real life and once in virtuality which equals twice hence thrice will be Loving him in actuality. If she ever goes to Hollywood she will have to pay to get in. The Kook is just giving her a fair warning about the high prices in LA. Hollywood charges exorbitant fees for admission and she will have to figure all of this out in due time on her own. They should lower their entrance fees so that mainstream America can visit from time to time. Most genuine Kooks actually LIVE in LA, so this guy is being really thoughtful in delivering the inside scoop to all of us through song. Instead of hearing it as "Don't Ever Go To Hollywood", I think he is saying, "Don't Go To Hollywood Without Beaucoup Dinero". He wants tourism to flourish in Southern California.

    And don't be a star, it's such a drag
Take care of yourself, don't begin to lag
It's a hard life to live, so live it well
I'll be your friend I'll never pretend
You know I love you girl
    In all situations

The Kook loves her and is telling her to just be herself. He wants her to live well & to "take good care". He is her friend but more than that too. He loves her in every single situation he can think of, or at least lots of them. This means he loves her when she has greasy hair and is angry sitting in coffee-stained pajamas and he loves her when she is speeding down the highway singing in her quaky lamby voice and he will love her when she has spastic colon in the middle of intercourse. Most every single situation any one of us can conjure in our minds, The Kook is saying that HE WILL LOVE HER THROUGH THEM ALL. He doesn't tell us what she is thinking, but I imagine she feels the exact same way about him & neither one is pretending.

And ooh la, she was such a good girl to me
And ooh la, the world just chewed her up and spat her out
And ooh la, she was such a good girl to me
And ooh la, the world just chewed her up and spat her out

She was a good girl to him. The world flung her from its moist jowels and ew.

Pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty
    Pretty pretty pettycoat
Pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty
Pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pettycoat
    In all situations

He is telling the listeners to please wear Pretty Pretty Underwear In All Situations. He is notifying each one of us to be careful to adorn our private regions with nice panties every single day. What if we get taken to the hospital.. This should be a priority when we put on our clothes in the morning. If our underwear is unattractive and or filthy, we should go buy some new ones. This will spur the economy. The Kook knows his role as an undergarment salesman and that is why his message is so clear.

And ooh la, she was such a good girl to me
And ooh la, the world just chewed her up and spat her out
And ooh la, she was such a good girl to me
And ooh la, the world just chewed her up and spat her out

She became spittum when she was discharged with force from the universe's yap. She feels like a wad of garbage on pavement. Ooh La.
