The Script: Breakeven Meaning
Song Released: 2008
Breakeven Lyrics
Just prayin' to a god that I don't believe in
Cause I got time while she got freedom
Cause when a heart breaks no it don't break even
Her best days will be some of my worst
She finally...

#1 top rated interpretation:I think it’s about a guy dealing with regret and loss. He didn’t value her love enough and she was forced to move on. “She finally met a man who put her first.” He didn’t realize how much she meant to him until she was gone. This is really sad for both sides. I know what it’s like to be the one who moved on and the ex suddenly shows love for you and wants you back but you can’t because your love slowly died to them and there’s nothing left to give but it still hurts to watch your former love in pain and regret.

#2 top rated interpretation:This song is totally about a break-up...where the girl moves on with her life and enjoying it, while the guy is in pieces and cannot cope up with the break-up..
The break-up was not equal, it's says so in the lyrics...
The girl, has moved on and found another guy, and the protagonist cannot take it...This is because the guy is still in luv with the girl and it was the girl who ended it... Probably because he wasnt giving her enough time.... -

#3 top rated interpretation:"I'm still alive but I'm barely breathing" this song is about heartbreak and this line refers to a time during the making of this album in which Danny O'Donoghue (the lead singer and songwriter) and friend guitarist mark Sheehan were suffering a hard time after the death of their parents, hence the "barely breathing"part as marks' mother was sick for a very long time before she passed away. the rest of the song i think refers to a relationship, probably of lovers, rather than family.
"She finally met a man whos gonna put her first" might refer to his(the character who the song is about) long work schedule and never being able to sit back with his girl and be a couple so she moves on to another man who will have time for her, but his heart doesnt "breakeven" because he knows she still loves him but cant compete with his work anymore, hence the "while im wide awake she has no trouble sleeping" because this is a sign of comfort and safety when you can sleep knowing that someone is watching over you.
personally i think there are two lines in the entire song that define what the real meaning is; "her best days will be some of my worst". the reason why i think this is because the lines surrounding these pretty much explain that because he's been away so much that "her best days" with another guy are his worst because she gone. "what am i supposed to do when the best part of me was always you" this is a very romantic line because he's saying "well, you were the best thing that ever happened to me, and without you i am nothing, so what am i supposed to do now that you're not with me anymore" :'( -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I think it’s about a guy who didn’t value the love of his girlfriend and when she finally left (lost feelings) and found someone better for her, he realized that he actually loved her and can’t move on.
-
What if it’s about the girl dying. She got freedom and he got time. The man could be god.

What if he was her stalker? He got time which could mean jail time and she is now free from him. She found someone who she likes, while he is stuck being away from her. His heart broke because he loved her, but she's fine because she didn't love him. He took the blame because he was stalking her. He doesn't understand that she doesn't and never did love him.

The breakeven part means that it's a guy and a girls relationship (the heart that's breaking) and so when the relationship splits one moves on causing their part of the heart to minimally break while the other partners heart has most of the heartbreak left and has to fix oneself. It's really hard to watch the girl as she moves on because he's sad and a little jealous of the new guy
-
I think its's about the love of the guy to the girl who he didn't fulfill the needs as the girl's boyfriend. And the guy is now glad about the girl having the right guy, but still it hurts. Though, even if his breaking, he won't breakeven.
-
I think that he means he's still heart broken and she's moved on. It's very sad each time I cry cuz I can relate 2 this song .
-
He's still mourning over the break up but she isn't. She has already moved on but he's still lonely.:(
When a heart breaks no it dont break even
The two dont feel the same after the break up. -
It is very obvious.about heartbreaks. the other one is moved on and the other one was left hurt :"(

Does anyone watch Degrassi? Well, think of Eli, and you have this song. Like, seriously.
But here's what this song means; a guy is totally in love with a girl who breaks his heart and moves on to another guy. The singer is talking about how he loves this girl so much, and even though she's moved on, he doesn't think he can.
"What am I supposed to do when the best part of me was always you?" He doesn't know how to live without her. -
I think what theyre trying to say is that when a relationships ends, there is always one person left more hurt...
