    i think this song is about a girl who is a little immature and needs validation from other people "She asked me if she was pretty" and "If in their eyes you will always be a dumb blonde" even though he hair is blue now which means she wanted to come out of that stereotype and yet made an immature decision, "it looked like cotton candy". but eventually, she grows up and matures with time and cuts off her blue hair and he calls it beautiful because he found her innocence and imperfections beautiful. and the last he heard about her she met a guy who is equally mature and even though he misses the old her he knows he cannot stop people from growing up
