Fast Cars Lyrics

My cell is ringing
No ID
I need to know who's calling

My garden's overgrown
I go out on my belly crawling
I got CCTV, pornography, CNBC
I got the nightly news
To get to know the enemy

All I want is a picture of you
All I want is to...

It's about Western lifestyle. The song clearly makes reference to television stations, cell phones, drugs/rehab, and a general aimlessness in life ("I'm going nowhere, where I am it is a lot of fun").

The chorus line, "I know these fast cars will do me no good," is simply about the pointlessness in amassing physical wealth and the feeling of emptiness one can get even with material goods. The last line, "not used to talking to somebody in a body" could refer to how messed up we are now, how we're more comfortable talking to someone on a computer or phone than talking to him/her naturally, and face-to-face. Lastly, the lyrics "All I want is a picture of you, All I want is to get right next to you, All I want is your picture in a locket, Your face in my pocket" could refer to the superficiality present in Western society and how people are judged largely on looks.
