The Story Lyrics

I've been thinking of everything
I used to want to be
I've been thinking of everything
Of me, of you and me

This is the story of my life
These are the lies I have created

I'm in the middle of nothing
And it's where I want to be
I'm at...

I see the lies I've created as more like the lies we ALL create about our lives. The way we rewrite our own personal histories to benefit ourselves. No one is ever completely honest about how they caused things in their life to not turn out right.

This is about owning the lies in your life story.

In my opinion, this song has two possible meanings: suicide and moving.
1- I believe this song might be about suicide, unlike the others who submitted their interpretation before me. I believe this song illustrates the thoughts of a person who will, soon, commit suicide. The slow tempo of the song makes us feel calm; I believe it is to illustrate that he is at peace where he is standing and that he feels comfortable with the decision he made.
"I've been thinking of everything I used to want to be. I've been thinking of everything; of me, of you and me": Well, he's obviously been thinking, and it is made clear that he got out of a relationship. I believe he has been thinking of the relationship and the reason it ended.
Right after, he says: "This is the story of my life. These are the lies I have created". I think that the reason behind the breakup has been revealed ("these are the lies I have created"). He might have done something horrible and could not get out of it. Sort of like digging a hole too deep and afterwards being stuck in it.
"I'm in the middle of nothing and it's where I want to be. I'm at the bottom of everything and I finally start to leave": In those lines, he is refering to where he is standing at the present moment. It can be his physical presence that is "in the middle of nothing"; he might be standing alone in a room, on top of a building or in a field, and I believe he will soon commit suicide. It can also be his emotional state that is in "the middle of nothing", meaning he is really deep into depression. When he says that he is at the bottom of everything and that he is ready to leave, I believe it means that he feels hatred towards himself and he sees no way out. He is therefore ready to leave, meaning he is ready to kill himself.
(Chorus repeated; putting emphasis on the fact that he is talking about his life and that he lied)
As for the bridge, his tone is harsher and the music a little faster, creating a tenser mood. "I swear to God I've found myself in the end": I believe he has the gun to his head, the pills in his hand or the rope around his neck and is ready to jump, pull the trigger or swallow. When he says that he has found himself in the end, it seems as though he might be trying to convince himself that he is doing what is best. When he repeats "in the end", I think it puts emphasis on the fact that it is indeed the end.
When he sings "This is the story of my life. These are the lies I have created" for the last time, he says it in a slow and sad voice. I think it means that it was his life and that he no longer exists as a human being because of the lies he has created.

2- The second possible meaning to this song in my opinion is moving (changing cities, region or country because of universities or jobs)
"I've been thinking of everything I used to want to be. I've been thinking of everything; of me, of you and me": he is telling his girlfriend that he has been thinking a lot about what he wants to be (career-wise)and about their relationship.
"This is the story of my life. These are the lies I have created": obviously means that he is refering to his life. As for the "lies" part, I believe he is simply comparing life to lies.
"I'm in the middle of nothing and it's where I want to be. I'm at the bottom of everything and I finally start to leave" : He means that right now he isolates himself in order to think about this life-changing decision, and he finally decides to leave.
"I swear to God I've found myself in the end" pretty much speaks for itself. He is talking to his girlfriend and telling her that he knows what he is doing and that he has finally found himself and now has a dream.

I think this song is about how after the end of a relationship, he realized he had changed himself to be who she wanted him to be, not who he had wanted to be. "These are the lies I have created" they don't feel real to him anymore and now he understands it wasn't worth it to be something you aren't.

he made mistakes, he became a lie to himself by changing to keep her. but in the end he ended "in the middle of nothing", meaning he lost it all.
but he doesnt regret it and realises that now he can start a new life "at the bottom of everything i finally start to live"

This song could mean that the person has just found out what they are really like, after lying to everybody - especially their girlfriend - about things they shouldn't have lied about. They could've lied to get out of doing things they didn't want to do.
also, if nobody is sure what this song means, then 30stm weren't very good at making a song if u don't know what it means.
plz tell me if u disagree or if i'm wrong.

This song could mean 2 things. Like some other people have said, it may be about somebody about to commit suicide. OR it could be about somebody who has just realised what he is is really like. He could have had this girlfriend and he could be thinking of all the lies that he told her to get out of doing things.
They aren't very good explanations, but i think i get it.

To me this song has two meanings..

    1. I think it's about what you think about yourself. finding yourself in the middle of nowhere, and you kinda like it. and for some reasons, this is where you want to write your story, the lies that you've created just for perfection..... 7 that's who you are.

    2. I also kinda find myself in this song in a different way. I think it's about finding true love. you're making lies to your bf/gf if you think he/she is not the right one for you. and now you've found your true love, you've finally realize who you really are. Those people you've hurt just to find love are all written in your diary.

that's how the song approaches me...

Suicide seems better than moving...because of the actual music itself.

He is telling his life story and all the mistakes he has made. but in a way he kinda wants to be there (I'm in the middle of nothing and its where I want to be).

I think that it's about lying to a girl and trying to find yourself.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
