Ben Folds: Annie Waits Meaning
Annie Waits Lyrics
Annie waits, Annie waits, Annie waits
For a call
From a friend
The same
It's the same
Was it always the same?
Annie waits for the last time
The clock never stops, never stops, never waits
She's growing old
It's getting...
-
I'm no lyrical expert, but I believe this song is about a woman Annie waiting for her beloved to return from war.
The song mentions how "the clock never stops". This is giving attention to the fact that she's growing old without her loved one.
"Friday bingo, pigeons in the park" are all common activities associated to the elderly, and perhaps what Annie did to keep her mind off of her missing husband.
"Maybe he's been seriously hurt" Is what she seems to be concerned about and pointed me to the fact that he may be fighting in a war, but It's all just speculation.
