The inspiration for this song comes from J.R.R Tolkien's epic story of the Elder Days of Middle-earth, most of which is told in his book "The Silmarillion". The song is about the Elf Lord, Fingolfin, charging off to single combat with the Dark Lord Morgoth, and subsequently being defeated and killed.
