    Seems very frustrated and taking shots at media and other artists. Referencing fortune teller (Springsteen) and Chestnut Mare (The Byrd’s). I’m sure there are others I’m not noticing. Sounds like he was pissed at everyone and himself!

    not sure if bob Dylan in being compared to other artists of his time back in the mid 70's like springsteen and lightfoot that could have affected his love relationship in a jealous and bitter way towards the media that was writing about him, while going thru the divorce from his wife wich he felt the hurt in the form of a beast that he was trying to leave behind.

    I believe Bob was going through divorce at the time, but it works on larger scale, too.
