Saving Amy is about a young man who has just proposed to his girlfriend but "never makes it home," implying that he died in a car accident. As he decides in heaven, he watches as his girlfriend slowly loses her mind as she mourned his death. He is very upset too, as he wishes he could do anything to "kiss the tears right off her face," and "tell her everything's okay," but he knows he can't. He pleads with God to help her move on with her life so she can be happy again. As the song progresses, three years go by and his girlfriend is "finally living life." But he still watches over her because he made a promise to protect her forever, no matter what.
A beautiful song! It brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard it. Brantley Gilbert himself said he was inspired to write the song after a friend of his died after proposing to his girlfriend.
