My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up) Lyrics

"My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark"

Oh, whoa, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, whoa.
Oh, whoa, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, whoa.

B-B-B-Be careful making wishes in the dark, dark
Can't be sure when they've hit their mark,...

I have found multiple possible (yet with a painful lack of intricate detail) interpretations of the lyrics to this song, all involving the change in the group's music style.

1.) This song could be about giving in to become what everyone wants you to be. Perhaps Fall Out Boy came back, but under the condition that their music will be mainstream pop with a hint of rock, rather than the old pop-punk/alternative sound showcased in previous albums. Selling their soul to the devil to produce overproduced music. Anything Fall Out Boy related from their past years was burned and being replaced in the video.

2.) On a more positive matter, the song could simply be about being yourself, despite the fact that you will have haters. Like in the video, Fall Out Boy related objects were being burned.

3.) There's also the possibility that the tune could be about a failed relationship, although the video would have no correlation with the lyrics.

I think that he has recently suffered a break up, and his ex-girlfriend is burning all of his stuff, trying to ruin him. But he says he's 'in the deep deep cares with the devil', so I think he's thinking of getting back at her again. 'My songs know what you did in the dark so light em up, up, up. Light em up, up, up, I'm on fire'. Means basically that he knows what she's up to, and to bring it on cause he's about to give her a taste of her own poison.

It could maybe mean starting over completely and "burning" you past life; the "devil" so-to-speak, and starting over fresh with out all of the haters and just being yourself.

I think it means, that he knows what they are doing with his stuff and that he is going to get revenge, and he broke up with his cheating girlfriend, I mean they could be enemies too

I think it means that be careful what you do because whomever he is talking to, they hurt him and he will get serious revenge.

I think he knows a secret of hers. So she has to erase the evidence.

My theory is that he's girlfriend cheated oj him and his fist fighting the guy there for the name "my songs know what you did in the dark"

What I think it means is that he says he makes detail with the devil. So when he says light em up I'm on fire he mean that his burning in hell.

My interpretation is very confusing: the first four lines are "be careful what you do, I am your worst enemy and will use it against you" , the next four lines are "I've gotten my men to destroy you, I am unstoppable, and just need the tiniest bit of info to destroy you" , the chorus is "I am a musician and I will destroy you" , I know that the chorus theory sucks, but what the heck? The next four lines are "rumors are spreading, and hurting people, I will use that against you, you might be able to stop every thing, but you can't stop me" , the next four lines are "I will destroy everything that you've worked for with rumors, I hated people like this as a child" , I know that last theory suck as well, but yea, that's what I think.

A guy is pissed at some one and is firebombing his/her house. "Burn everything you love then burn the ashes!" thats dark!
