It's about growing up and life.
Thinking about how things turn out.
    Disappointment.
    Will the wind ever remember...
It refers to people in ones past

feeling a piece/peace of mind which I believe The Blessed Mary is mentioned , I still like listening in the early morning to this tune !
give me the beat Jimi to ease my soul I want to get lost in your rock & roll and "drift" away ..
PEACE OUT FOREVER MY FRIEND !

The wind was sad because it had lost it's girlfriend - Mary. C'mon, what else could it mean ?

sometimes you feel down and out maybe he felt that way when he wrote the song, its not really a happy thing, but who cares? At this point in time. It could mean anything for us that likes it.me being one.

I think The Wind Cries Mary is a song about becoming elightened, as some people call it."After all the jacks are in their boxes
And the clowns have all gone to bed" this phrase could indicate the different egos we have in our selves finally being disolved. "A broom is drearily sweeping
Up the broken pieces of yesterday’s life" This shows that when we 'wake up' we get rid of all the petty things of our former life. When he says that the wind cries mary, this might mean that the wind is blessing mary with the divine.. Maybe Im wrong, but this is how i interpret the song and it doesnt matter if people interpret it differently as long as they can enjoy it. But if we'd really wish to really listen to the song, we'd have to be blessed like mary was first ;) Rock n roll
