on the day i was born the moon turned into fire red
the moon turns into fire red = a lunar eclipse

i presume Jimi wanted to express that he felt like born under a bad sign

Identifying with one's creative energies over the physical and transient existence of the body (or the world), a realization of the spirit as immortal, and the "hero-martyr" who passes on his energies to the next generation by dying at the peak of his life. Hendrix was no light-weight.
