I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for...

Simply put, "Roar" is talking about standing up for yourself. We shouldn't stay quiet about things and hold in how we feel, we should roar, or stand up for ourselves and be heard. That way, we will be floating like a butterfly, being free.

She has always been scared to say what she feels. Now the spouse is attacked by a tiger (as in the video) she doesn't have to bite her tongue any more she can (theoretically speaking) ROAR.

When Katy was a kid she was bullied, and I think that in this song she is pretty much talking about how she has the wisdom to stand up to people now and let her voice be heard.

I interpret this song as recovering from an emotionally abusive relationship.

I believe the lyrics mean that you can't keep quiet about how you feel or your views for the sake of others. Speak your truth.
Also you can't depend on others to make your dreams turn to reality. Only you can do this. Maybe she had nobody believing her dreams as strongly as what she did and this is why she turn from "zero" to her "own hero".

I think that katy perry was bullied when she was a kid, and how now she has the courage to stand up to them and isn't afraid to tell other people she is being bullied. Why do u think the first line is "I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath"?
Anyways, this song could be about a number of things, but that is my best guess

Let me make up a conspiracy theory. Tiger represents Asian while Lion is Christianity, the Western Civilization. Notice that Katy has a tattoo on her right wrist with the name of "Jesus" which is shown at the begging when she's still in the crashed plane and then she stretches like she just woke up. The ruined plane means the end of Christianity, and now she's ready to try a new world where she will eventually be the queen. If you enable "Autoplay" on YouTube, the next video will always be "Awake".

Lol some of those comments are so ridiculous. The eye of the tiger. If I said I had the eye of a tiger understanding that tigers kill also known as man eaters. For a woman to say that she has the eye of the tiger can mean shes out to destroy man. Tigers have a low success rate in there attacks on thier prey. So really who would want the eye of the tiger? Ill pass on these vain descriptions

The verse "Dancing in he Fire" is compared to the book "Lord of The Flies" when the boys and made a fire on the tree and are trying to get it out by stomping (dancing) on it.

as a kid, katy was bullied. She now has the bravery & courage to stand up for herself, & she will roar so her voice will be heard. She believes that herself & all others bullied are true champions

Not just bullying, but other situations that someone has held someone down and been mean. This is about the person who is stronger now and won't take it any more. Of course, this song isn't very original but I like the beat and I enjoy it.

It is about the woman called Eve who viewed as a weakling in man's world because she likes to pretend and maintain quite. Mankind treated her as a property when the truth is she is that God. Eve saw that Satan was tricking Adam not to eat the fruit by pretending he is God so, Eve gave the fruit to Adam to eat so he can be God like her and to see the truth like the eye of the tiger. But Adam swore not to eat the fruit and he was condemned and thrown out of the garden. Eve was blamed because of that transgression so Eve went with Adam until Adam paid his death. Eve was the true Guardian of the tree of knowledge because she was also an Angel who likes to disguise like Satan. Satan despise her a lot because she likes the man called Adam. They've been fighting ever since that day and she roars like a lion when she found out Adam becomes a lawyer. She totally hates the lawyers because they are the deceiver of her own garden and turned her into nothing. That's is why mankind is being punish because they all turned against her because of the fruit of knowledge of good and evil called bible.
