Dancing on the Ceiling Lyrics
Something is going on
That's not quite clear
Somebody turn on the light
We're gonna have a party
It's starting tonight
Oh, what a feeling!
When we're dancing on the ceiling
The room is hot...that's good

Premier that must have been a dark time in his life but I can't figure out that could even be him singing that because he always been such beautiful love songs

His friends come over, the room is hot, he tells everyone not to be uptight, and when they all party, they like to get down.
This song, without a doubt, is about an orgy.
Dancing on the ceiling, in general, invokes the image of someone with their legs upright during sex, but in this case, it's not a solo dance because Mr. Richie invited his friends over for the affair (pun intended).
It may be true that he heard someone say this as they walked by him, but that person was conveying the fact that they had just gotten laid.
Richie took it a step further and made it a group sex anthem for the coke fueled 80's.
It makes sense from the man who gave us songs like "Brick house" which, as it turns out, is not a song about the 3 little pigs.
