   I think its about mental health, someone in jades family suffered with anorexia and in jades part of the song she talked about trying to eat but the lump in my throat got in the way... people with anorexia often say theres a lump in their throat when they have to eat and leigh-annes part talking about trying to smile could be about depression and feeling bad inside and the smile being fake?

   I THINK the song is about someone, who they loved and had a romantic relationship with, dying. At first I thought it was just a breakup but it just feels like there's more to it. And "If I hear your voice I'll be fine" at first I thought if he just answers the phone she would be OK but that wouldn't make any sense seeing that HE would have been the one to call it off and hearing his voice would still not change anything(if it were about a breakup) But if it were about Him dying, hearing his voice means that He IS alive and the reality that is, isnt? I dont know if that makes sense.

   I think this song is about losing someone that you loved, whether it's a boyfriend or a dog. Jade's part is talking about hiw she doesn't want to do anything, and that she can't go on without this person. Jesy and Perrie's parts (the choruses) are about how they cannot have anything to be proud of. They "can't come alive" because this person is not there with them. Finally, Leigh-Ann's part is about about how she thought she should "smile today" but then she realized why smile if not there to share the joy with me? This is what I interpret the song as, and I hope it helped you understand the song too!

   I think it means like someone has left, im pretty sentimental. Think about it "I can't leave your side " "your pillows wet from all the tears I've cried" its like saying, I want to leave this world. If he or she isn't here with me then there nothing there at all just a a numb feeling just "these four walls and me"
