Marilyn Manson: The Beautiful People Meaning

Album cover for The Beautiful People album cover

Song Released: 1996

The Beautiful People Lyrics

I don't want you and I don't need you
Don't bother to resist, I'll beat you
It's not your fault that you're always wrong
The weak ones are there to justify the strong

The beautiful people, the beautiful people
It's all relative to the size...

If you actually think that this song is about religion then you don't understand him. One, he does not hate mormons. Read his damn book. Two, this song is all about politics, and the way politics judge people. He's talking about the way they try to solve problems is always based on religion. Thous the verse "its all relative to the size of your steeple." look up what capitation means in the dictionary. and how politics think there better that people when the verse goes, " you cant see the forest through the trees, and cant smell your own shit on your knees."and he's talking about when the nazis discriminated everyone. Think...what beautiful means in the usa?...us! and we think we're better than everyone else. It's about power and politics, politics, politics.

I had a chance to talk to marilyn manson about this song. His responce was this

"the true meaning behind any song is not what the artists intentions were. It is what the listener can interpret and decide the meaning for him/herself. Tis the beauty of music."

so in short its what you interpret.

This song was written when manson started to become a popular figure in hollywood and started to hang out with famous figures in pop culture who are convinced that you need to look perfect and act perfect to make money and survive in society

ha.. I read the last comment said for the song.. wow that sucks that he couldnt / can't go there... what I think is that people think that others that do not look as good as everyone else are looked down on and not respected like they should be and that all most of them are a lot better than all the other "beautiful people"... That's what I think.. but who knows.. Its marilyn manson

Ok first of all I live in Utah, I know I know it's not my fault. Ha ha but he wrote this song after they wouldn't let him play here....which I was pissed about by the way. Also being a huge fan I know that he hates mormoms enough anyway. In it he makes references to religion, and says that they can't see the forrest through the trees, and can't smell their own shit on their knees. Saying that their blinded with ignorance and judgmental ostrasizing. He refers to mormons as beautiful people not because they are but because they think they are, but that's just how I took it living in Utah and all.
